Enzymes in poultry nutrition

Enzymes are proteins involved in all anabolic and catabolic pathways of digestion and metabolism. Digestive enzymes are categorised as endogenous or exogenous. Endogenous enzymes are produced by the animal and exogenous enzymes are administered from outside. Enzyme supplementation decreases nutrient loss through excreta, reduces diets nutritional levels, improves nutrient availability; thus, enhances production efficiency and profitability. In addition, exogenous enzymes hydrolyse non-starch polysaccharides, increase the usage of feed energy, reduce negative impacts of non-digestive residues on digesta viscosity, and improve gut microbial ecosystem. Cellulase, glucanase, pectinase, xylanase, galactisidases, phytase, non-starch polysaccharides degrading enzymes, amylase, lipase, cellulase, and protease are the most common enzymes used in poultry feed.

Methionine, As we know very well is an essential amino acid meaning it is not required by the body and has to be supplemented from outside. Which means that a bird needs it from sources like feed which opens the doors of business for all those industries which produce methionine. If it would have been like other amino acids which are non-essential and produced by the body we certainly would not have been interested in its business and discussing about Herbal Methionine. Methionine is non...

Recent data has shown broilers supplemented with HMTBa (2-hydroxy 4-(methylthio) butanoic acid) as a methionine source exhibited fewer condemnations and higher livability consistently. Broiler producers know that to achieve their best profit margins, every aspect of the process from live production to processing must be optimized, but many producers find that even through careful management, condemnations cut their profits time after time. Producers and animal...

NTRODUCTION For efficient production of animal products, the right amount of nutritionally adequate feedstuff should be supplied to the animal. All dietary components, such as energy, amino acid (AA), vitamins, and minerals are important when formulating diets for swine and poultry, however more attention should be given to the dietary energy and AA, as these components account for major cost of swine and poultry diets. A deficiency of essential AA and energy results in a...

The quantitative investment in immune defenses is thought to be under tight evolutionary control because they must be sufficient to thwart pathogens without excessively consuming resources (e.g. nutrients and energy) needed for other important processes or causing immunopathology (Ardia et al., 2010, Schmid-Hempel, 2011). In poultry production there is concern that the immune system competes for nutrients with tissue growth or egg production. The practical...

Some producers complain that their meat or egg type chickens suffer from problems in bone or egg shell quality when they include phytase in the diet as a partial substitute for the inorganic phosphorus sources (MCP; DCP; bone meal) according to the matrix value provided by the manufacturing company. Under field conditions, phytase activity is controlled by several parameters. This article will spot the light on utilization of phytase enzyme in poultry nutrition...

Introduction Distillers Dried Grains With Solubles Byproducts of the distilling industry such as distillers dried grains and distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) have long been commonly accepted feed ingredients in broiler diets. Early studies have been extensively reviewed by Scott (1965, 1970). Due to their supply and price, these products were typically fed at levels not exceeding 5% of the...

Introduction From the beginning of commercial poultry production, maximizing profit has been the main goal. Profit equals the best feed conversion, days to slaughterer, slaughter weights, livability, and uniformity for the least amount of money. The poultry industry is willing to take less in performance if it maximizes profits. An example of this is with coccidiosis control. Producers will pick the least expensive...

Introduction L-carnitine (LC) is a naturally occurring and widely distributed in nature compound. It was discovered in 1905 in Liebig’s meat extracts, a popular ‘dietary supplement’ at that time, by Gulewitsch and Krimberg [1] who named the substance from the Latin word for flesh (“carnus”). Carnitine chemical structure was established in 1927 and its function was related to long-chain fatty...

However, there are considerable variations in its protein quality and Ca and P concentrations. Ravindran et al.
