Amino acids in poultry nutrition

Adequate provision of dietary amino acids is required to maintain normal immunocompetence and protection of the host from some diseases in all species (Beski et al. 2015). Therefore, the development of immune function in poultry will be promoted if they receive sufficient amino acids in their diets. The essential amino acids for poultry are arginine, glycine, histidine, leucine, isoleucine, lysine, methionine, cystine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. Out of these, the ones critical in practical diets are arginine, lysine, methionine, cystine and tryptophan.

I. INTRODUCTION Broiler diets are formulated on the basis of ideal protein ratios (IPR) where selected amino acid requirements are expressed relative to lysine (100). However, IPR have been developed over decades for standard diets rather than diets with reduced-CP. This has led to the possibility that reduced-CP diets require modified IPR. For this reason, two sets of ratios were evaluated in diets with 210 and 180 g/kg CP in a 2 × 2 factorial design. II....

DL-Methionine (DL-Met, 99%) and liquid DL-2-hydroxy-4-methylthio butanoic acid (methionine hydroxy analogue-free acid, MHA-FA, 88%) are often used in commercial poultry feeds to meet the requirements for Methionine+Cysteine (M+C). However, differences in chemical properties and absorption decrease the relative bioavailability value (RBV) of MHAFA, which corresponds to 65% of DL-Met for performance . This study aimed to confirm that MHA-FA can be replaced with DL-Met at a...

ABSTRACT Enteric infections such as coccidiosis and necrotic enteritis in broilers may have a large influence on the endogenous amino acids (eAA) losses within the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Although not much is known on this topic, more information is available on the effects of these diseases on the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of amino acids. There are many factors that must be considered when attempting to determine the intestinal flow of eAA, including age of the...

I. Introduction Grains are the major energy sources in broiler diets. However, they also supply about 40% of the total dietary protein and contribute significantly to the provision of some indispensable amino acids (IAA; Szczurek et al., 2020). Despite the low protein content in maize, owing to its higher inclusion levels (50-70%) it may contribute approximately up to one third of the protein requirement of broilers. The inclusion of barley in poultry diets remains limited because of...

I. INTRODUCTION Broiler breeders require adequate levels of nutrients to reach their genetic potential in terms of productive and reproductive performance, and to transfer essential nutrients from eggs to embryo for the development of chicks (Rajashree et al., 2014). It is known that oxidative stress impairs a breeder’s performance (particularly related to aging) and embryo development. This suggests that enhanced antioxidant defenses, via effective dietary...

APIs MARKET The price index of veterinary APIs monitored by China Veterinary Drugs and Feed Trading Centre for four weeks this month was 64.80-65.07-64.90-64.66, indicating that the market is generally stable. Products such as Doxycycline hydrochloride, neomycin sulfate, tilmicosin, enrofloxacin, and florfenicol, etc, have received more attention, while other categories and products have performed stably and are still at the bottom of the market. A cliff-like...

INTRODUCTION In line with the tremendous progress that has been made in meat-type duck production, digestibility and balance experiments are necessary to fill the dearth of information on the nutrient digestibility of widely used feedstuffs. Digestibility experiments for the evaluation of nutrient disappearance along the gastrointestinal tract align with the need for precise feed formulation to match animals’ requirements for optimal performance; and minimize the excretion...

The objective of the study was to evaluate tryptophan’s functionally essential role in regulating performance, intestinal inflammation, and disease resistance during a coccidia challenge. A total of 300 two-day-old Cobb 500 broiler chickens (54.29 ± 0.284 g body weight [BW]) were group housed (5 chickens/pen; 10 pens/treatment) in battery brooders and had ad libitum access to a basal diet and water. At 7 d of age, pens were randomly assigned to 1 of 6 levels of dietary...

INTRODUCTION In the modern poultry production system, the first reported chick embryos injection of thiourea was done by Grossowicz in 1946 to observe the effect in hatchling and post-hatch life (1), followed by thyroxin by Balaban and Hill (2). Later, in ovo technique (IOT) was first opted for vaccination against Marek’s disease by Sharma and Burmester (3). Subsequently, the success of in ovo vaccination (IOV) has set forth a paradigm shift in the poultry industry by adapting...

Feather meal (FM) which is a biological bvproduct, has a high crude protein content of about 85%. However, poor digestibility and low nutritional value restrict the utilisation of FM as animal feed, most likely linked to the mechanical stability and proteolytic resistance of keratin (Lasekan et al., 2013). Chemical treatments for improving the nutritional value of feather meal were described recently (Pfeuti et al., 2019a). The current study used a chemical-enzymatic pretreatment...

Introduction In Syria chicken occupies a major place in production and consumption among poultry. It has become the second most popular meat eaten and is most likely to maintain this position. Chicken meat is a good source of protein and many nutrients, and is relatively low in fat, especially if the skin is removed. Chicken meat is also characterized by versatility in menu planning, ease of preparation, consistent quality, and the availability of wide range of pre-packaged, branded,...

An experiment was conducted to assess the potential for guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) to spare dietary energy and influence muscle myopathies when included in broiler diets. A total of 1,056 male Ross 708 broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 48 floor pens with 22 chicks per pen. Broilers were fed one of four experimental diets and reared to 50 days of age. Dietary treatments consisted of a control (T1), T2 (T1 – 110 kcal/kg apparent MEn), T3 (T2 + 0.08% GAA), and T4 (T1 – 55...

Introduction The concept of maintenance has been defined as the state of balance between the intake of nutrients and their inevitable losses (Siqueira et al., 2011; Silva et al., 2014; Soares et al., 2019). That contributes to an understanding of the differences in responses between individuals of a population and enhances the requirements concept. Different methodologies have been developed to estimate nitrogen and amino acid requirements for maintenance (Burnham and Gous, 1992;...

In recent years protein feed ingredients are consistently increasing in cost and protein in poultry diets has become one of the most expensive nutrient. Urbanization is putting pressure to produce more and high quality protein sources in less space. Neutralizing substandard quality feed ingredients with effective tools has also become a new concern. In parallel people are more concerned on impact of animal agriculture on environmental pollution. Hence research has focused in the direction to...

1. Introduction The best strategy to optimize production and reproduction in poultry species while mitigating the harmful effects of environmental conditions is proper nutrition 1,2,3 . One of the pillars of nutrition is the use of amino acids in poultry diets, among which Methionine (Met) represents the first limiting amino acid in broilers. As Bunchasak 4 reported, Met can act as an amino acid in the synthesis of protein and polyamine, a sulfur donor, a...
