When chickens are healthy they consume less feed and produce more quality eggs. They are less trouble to look after and less money is spent on medical costs. Poultry disease can spread rapidly among chickens because they are usually kept together in the chicken house. The chickens share the same feeders and drinkers, which can spread disease and infections rapidly from sick to healthy chickens. In intensive egg production systems, much focus is placed on the egg laying performance of the flock. Poultry diseases can negatively affect the health and performance of your flock. Important and common poultry diseases include necrotic enteritis, chronic respiratory diseases, gangrenous dermatitis, fowl cholera, and avian influenza.
Variably depending upon stress, disease challenge laying hens start false laying (ova release in to abdominal cavity) ultimately ending up with mortality due to peritonitis. This problem is comparatively less in early weeks of laying but frequency increases with increase in the age of layers. Please share your experience/ knowledge for control of it. Vaccination against diseases like IB, ND, MG, E. Coli is being done regularly. ...
1. Introduction In light of the challenges posed by climate change, economic crisis, overpopulation, and high global demand for protein, poultry production emerges as a more environmentally friendly option compared to meat from livestock. It has a lower impact on greenhouse gas emissions and demonstrates higher conversion rates [1]. Additionally, poultry production requires fewer resources and has a faster production cycle, making it an appealing protein source [2]. However, the...

Particulate matter (PM) can damage bird lungs. Now poultry scientists gather data to give a fuller picture of the effects of PM in different housing systems
Poultry scientists are working to better understand the impacts of particulate matter (PM) on bird health and production. Particulate matter includes very small particles of feed, feathers, animal waste, and dander. Researchers have found that PM...

Feed constitutes one of the major costs incurred upon rearing a successful poultry farming. It is usually observed that up to 80% of the total rearing cost in Poultry is constituted by the Feed and thus it becomes imperative to have the best quality feed in order to attain the maximum performance potential of birds. The Feed which is made up of various raw materials can be the first source of infection to the birds. The external contamination of Feed through various means which include...

Conclusion To optimise oxidative status in broilers under challenging environmental circumstances, high levels of antioxidants are required to counteract the negative effects of reactive oxygen species. The addition of either 15 mg/kg vitamin E or 15 mg/kg Selko AOmix to broiler diets containing 10 mg/kg vitamin E diminished an increase in plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) levels (a marker for oxidative status) that may occur in animals in conditions where heat challenge is expected....

With the growing popularity of free range production systems, the incidence of helminth infections has increased in commercial poultry farms in Australia. Adequate control can only be maintained by regular application of commercial anthelmintics. Until very recently, levamisole (LEV) and piperazine (PIP) were the only registered chemicals to treat nematode infections in chickens with no published appraisal of their efficacy status since registration. We report the first formal investigation...

Introduction Infectious bronchitis, newcastle disease, infectious laryngotracheitis, avian influenza, and pneumovirus are the viruses that more frequently affect the respiratory tract of chickens. Because of the tendency to change its antigenic properties, viral diseases are predominantly present in most poultry producing areas of the world. New serotypes and variant strains of respiratory viruses are reported in several countries. Current commercially available vaccines do not...

Poultry scientists offer an approach for more accurate predictions of immune system function in birds
New research suggests poultry breeders can boost immune system function in birds by updating their prediction models to include “non-additive” genetic effects. The new study, published in The...
Pathogen control is a crucial challenge faced especially in the young animal stage of production. Young animals are very prone to pathogen infection since their gut takes time to fully develop. In this TechTalk, Annafe Perino, Product Manager from Southeast Asia and Pacific, shares how organic acids work to support animals in managing gut pH, fighting pathogenic bacteria as well as controlling pathogen proliferation....

Introduction Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi. They are unavoidable contaminants in foods and feeds, exerting harmful effects upon animal and human health 39 . The most important mycotoxins in naturally contaminated foods and feeds are aflatoxins (AFs), ochratoxins, zearalenone, T-2 toxin, deoxynivalenol and fumonisins 7,32 . Aflatoxin contaminated feeds are a severe threat to both livestock productivity and human health and cause...
