In January 2013, he started working as manager animal physiology research in Animal Nutrition Research Department in Evonik Nutrition & Care GmbH. In June 2016, he was promoted to senior manager nutritional physiology research and in 1st July 2017, he was promoted to Head of Animal Nutrition Research Department in Evonik Nutrition & Care GmbH. Starting 1st September 2018, Dr. Behnam Saremi moved to CJ Europe GmbH (Part of CJ CheilJedang BIO) where his main responsibility is “Director of Technical Center”.

How can the poultry industry become carbon neutral?
Richard Eckard, The University of Melbourne
 
Richard Eckard is Professor of Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Primary Industries Climate Challenges Centre (www.piccc.org.au), a research centre addressing the impacts of a changing climate on agriculture. His research focuses on sustainable agricultural production, with a recent focus on carbon neutral agriculture and options for agriculture to respond to a changing climate.

Richard developed the first greenhouse gas accounting tools for agriculture with his research and expertise provided the science basis for the development of six carbon offset methods in Australia.

He is a science advisor to the Australian, New Zealand (MPI, NZAGRC) and UK (ADAS) governments, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), UN FAO and EU (ERA-GAS and ERA-NET), on climate change adaptation, mitigation research and policy development in agriculture. He is a network leader in the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gasses. He is a member of the newly formed Victorian Agriculture and Climate Change Council and sits on numerous government and industry advisory committees.

Richard has published over 150 peer reviewed papers, with 80 peer-reviewed papers, 7 book chapters, and 140 conference papers on climate change, carbon farming and agriculture since 2010.

Reza has so far published around 36 peer-reviewed journal papers in addition to several papers in conference proceedings and a book chapter. Peter Selle was awarded his PhD in 2001 many years after graduating as a veterinarian. Peter joined the Poultry Research Foundation within the University of Sydney the following year and was subsequently appointed Adjunct Associate Professor. Since 1999, Peter has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters and has been made numerous presentations at international and local conferences. Peter’s interests include dietary phytate and exogenous phytase, sorghum as a feed grain for chicken-meat production, whole grain feeding, starch and protein digestive dynamics and reduced-crude protein diets for broiler chickens. Sustainable chicken-meat production is the ultimate purpose.

Emeritus Distinguished Professor, who retired from the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service in 2017. Dr. Watkins earned her PhD in poultry nutrition in 1996 and worked as an extension specialist with a primary focus on live production challenges. Dr. Watkins is a leading expert on evaluating and improving drinking water quality for livestock production. She has assisted operations all over the world with developing their water programs and she continues to provide advice and technical training. Her research team developed inexpensive methods for evaluating efficacy of sanitation products. In 2006, she was named a Top Gun Poultry Industry Problem Solver by Watt’s Publishing Company. Dr. Watkins mentored graduate students, taught poultry production, managed the internship program and assisted students with securing employment.

His academic interests include carbohydrate chemistry and nutrition, feed enzymes, necrotic enteritis and net energy. He published over 350 papers and supervised more than 50 postgraduate students to date. He has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including Australian Animal Production Society’s Young Scientist Award (1990), World’s Poultry Science Association’s “Syd Wilkins Prize” (1991), Australian Poultry Award (2004), Alltech Global Excellence Medal (2005), UK Animal Science Society’s “Fraser Gordon Medal” (2008) and UK Feed Industry Association’s “Poultry Nutrition Research Award” (2015).

She joined the company 8 years ago after completed her PhD working on minerals optimisation in poultry and swine with INRA (France) and Agriculture Canada. During this time, she built a good knowledge on animal physiology and on the interactions between calcium, phosphorus and animal physiology before joining AB Vista team where she has developed her expertise on enzymes and how-to bring enzymes value to reach the different production objectives. Her last area of interest is to look at the dietary fibre fraction and how to better characterize this substrate as looking at the tools to analyse and at the different strategies to optimize their use that would make sense for monogastrics nutritionists.

The rise of antimicrobial resistance

Dana Stanley - was awarded a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from Victoria University, Melbourne, 2009. Following graduation, she started a postdoctoral position in CSIRO’s Animal Health Laboratories (AAHL), in poultry intestinal health research. Dana specialised in gut microbiota and genetics during her time at AAHL. She moved to Central Queensland University in 2013 and is now a leader of the Molecular Microbiology and Poultry Health research cluster in the Institute for Future Farming Systems, focusing on human and livestock intestinal health and nutrition, probiotics, next-generation antibiotics development and pathogen control. Dana is also investigating the ways to reduce and control antimicrobial resistance on farms. She recently started working on pigs’ microbiota as well. Several of Dana’s projects are running directly on farms under full production conditions. Majority of her publications are in the world’s top 10% journals and among 10% most cited in the world. Dana is very passionate about nature conservation, animal ethics, exercise and nutrition.

Jones serves as part of the faculty for the National Egg Quality and National Egg Product schools, and is also an instructor in poultry products for the Midwest Poultry Consortium Center of Excellence Program. She has received multiple awards from the Poultry Science Association and been recognized as an outstanding alumnus for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. As a member of the Poultry Science Association, Jones encourages people in research to find their passions. For Jones, her passions lie in egg quality, safety and security on a national and international level.

Session 3: Feed Safety and Behaviour Studies / The role of feed safety in development of poultry microbiota
Dana Stanley / Central Queensland University
 
Dana Stanley - was awarded a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from Victoria University, Melbourne, 2009. Following graduation, she started a postdoctoral position in CSIRO’s Animal Health Laboratories (AAHL), in poultry intestinal health research. Dana specialised in gut microbiota and genetics during her time at AAHL. She moved to Central Queensland University in 2013 and is now a leader of the Molecular Microbiology and Poultry Health research cluster in the Institute for Future Farming Systems, focusing on human and livestock intestinal health and nutrition, probiotics, next-generation antibiotics development and pathogen control. Dana is also investigating the ways to reduce and control antimicrobial resistance on farms. She recently started working on pigs’ microbiota as well. Several of Dana’s projects are running directly on farms under full production conditions. Majority of her publications are in the world’s top 10% journals and among 10% most cited in the world. Dana is very passionate about nature conservation, animal ethics, exercise and nutrition.

Md. Sohel Rana is a Civil servant of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and a veterinarian by profession. He is serving as a ‘Veterinary Surgeon’ under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Bangladesh. Sohel is now a 3rd year PhD candidate and working in collaboration with the UNE Poultry Health Research Group and the Animal Behavior and Welfare Group of CSIRO, Armidale site, Australia. He is passionate about developing new technologies for sustainable layer production systems by improving laying hen behaviour and welfare. Traveling and sightseeing are his hobbies because he loves natural creature and their beauty.

Mark Stevenson is a veterinary epidemiologist with expertise in the area of infectious disease epidemiology, spatial epidemiology and simulation modelling of infectious disease spread. He is currently Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology (One Health) at The University of Melbourne.

These projects are funded by Australian Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) including Meat & Livestock Australia/LiveCorp and Australian Eggs.

Automated detection of flock health, behaviour and weight with machine vision in commercial broiler sheds

Cheryl is a senior research fellow in mechatronic engineering. She completed her PhD in 2009 and has been a full time researcher since then. Her research involves development of machine vision technologies for agriculture. She has led projects for the cotton, sugar, beef and poultry industries.
