Explore all the information onPhytogenics in poultry nutrition
Phytogenics, also known as phytobiotics, are natural bioactive compounds of botanical origin that are used as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) and are added to feed to enhance animal performance. Although phytogenics encompass a wide variety of substances of biological origin, formulation, chemical characterization, and purity, they can be classified into four groups: (1) herbs (products obtained from flowering, woody, and nonperennial plants); (2) botanicals (whole or processed parts of a plant, such as roots, leaves, tree bark, and spices); (3) essential oils (hydro-distilled extracts of volatile plant compounds); and (4) oleoresins (anhydrous solvent-based extracts). These plant-derived products do not contain residues, are natural, and are less toxic than synthetic antibiotics or inorganic chemicals. Many are generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and can be used as feed additives in animal nutrition.
Is a parasitic disease caused by protozoan of the genus Eimeria , affecting virtually all domestic and wild poultry species. The disease transmission is fecal-oral, by ingesting sporulated oocysts present in the litter, from faeces from infected birds, although a mechanical...

Demand for animal protein for human consumption is rising globally at an unprecedented rate. Modern poultry production practices are associated with regular use of AGPs, potentially increasing selection pressure on bacteria to become resistant. AGP-alternatives are being sought to improve poultry performance. While the industry is focused on developing alternate solutions; their mode of action still remains unclear. Present study is undertaken to establish probable mechanism of action of...
I. INTRODUCTION Over the last few decades, laying hen performance potential has largely been improved by genetic selection: egg production increased from 11.8 to 21.0 kg eggs per hen housed, FCR reduced from 3.29 to 1.96, mortality from 19.1 to 5.6% and body weight from 2.42 to 2.20 kg between 1970 and 2000 (Jeroch, 2011). Production cycles of 100 weeks without moulting will become commercially feasible based on improved laying persistence, although egg shell quality is still a...
Lipids represent a group of organic compounds including fatty acids or their derivatives and are insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. They are mainly made of carbon and hydrogen and, in a lesser extent, oxygen. Their main function is being an energy store (such as...
I. INTRODUCTION Owing to the increased efficiency, growth rate and reduced mortality achieved, antibiotics have been used continuously in the broiler industry for decades (Cromwell, 2002) and are being questioned for antibiotic resistance. Some of the alternatives include vitamins, minerals, herbal drugs, plant extracts, phytobiotics and antimicrobial peptides and beneficial bacteria (Yadav et al., 2016). Recently, there has been increased interest given to polyphenols...
The relentless march of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has emerged as a public health concern, especially in the light of the fact that newer antibiotic classes have been slow to develop and investments in novel antimicrobial drug classes have been receding. AMR problem transcends international borders with antibiotic stewardship. Increasing thrust for restriction on AGP’s has instigated hunt for newer alternatives. Present study is...
Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) is of high economic importance as this causes heavy production loss & mortality. Mycoplasma gallisepticum(MG) & Mycoplasma Synoviae(MS) is involved in polymicrobial “chronic respiratory disease” of chicken. Various antibiotics are used for management but pose the threat of MDR, & human food safety risks. Hence, the need of the hour is to find suitable alternatives for alleviation of sub-clinical infections and prevention of local...
An immunomodulator is any substance that helps to regulate the immune system. The function and efficiency of the immune system may be influenced by various exogenous and endogenous factors resulting in either immunosuppression or immunostimulation. Several compounds with an...
2020 Summary in Liptosa The year 2020 is over. It has been, undoubtedly, a very different and challenging year that has left uncertainty and immeasurable losses, both personally and professionally, and...
DIGEST FAST® allows to reduce up to 10kg of fat in the ration, an important saving that leaves us free space in formulation. Therefore, in addition to saving the cost of fat, the nutritionist has a valuable tool that...
LIPTOSA will be present again at the IPPE (International Production & Processing Expo, USA) edition from January 25 to 29 through the IPPE Marketplace SM platform.

The gastrointestinal tract is confronted with a cornucopia of diverse chemicals, pathogens and physicochemical states that it must analyze and react to appropriately to optimize nutrition and to defend against harm. It presents the largest and most vulnerable surface to the outside world. Integrated responses to these challenges require the gut to sense its environment. This it does through a range of detection systems for specific chemical...

Researchers from Egypt and Saudi Arabia conducted a study to determine if adding eucalyptus (EL) powder as a dietary supplementation would have an effect on productive performance and immune response in two varieties of Japanese quail.
Poultry Farmers have turned some of their attention towards natural feed additives to improve productive performance and enhance the health status of poultry flocks. This study was conducted to determine if...
Dr. R. Sripathy, Scientist R&D- Animal Health and Nutrition at AVT Natural, points out why Phytogenics can be a solution for effective animal production and for replacing antibiotics, during Poultry India 2019.

Introduction There is increasing consumer interest in healthier (designer) eggs, nutritionally enhanced and value added with enrichment of omega-3 fatty acids and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) along with reduced level of cholesterol, fat, saturated and trans-fatty acids in egg. Eggs are not only a highly nutritious food, but also a rich source of diverse bioactive components including nutraceuticals. In present scenario consumers are much conscious about their health and their...
1. Introduction Heat stress (HS) has undesired effects on the growth performance [1,2] and meat quality [3] of broiler chickens. During HS, chickens seek to dissipate unwanted and excess body heat by increasing panting, resulting in alteration of blood acid/base status, which in turn can give rise to respiratory alkalosis [4] and disruptions in muscle membrane integrity [3]. Additionally, the work required to maintain body temperature consumes diverts energy from metabolic...
Hector Torrealba, Technical Manager Latam at AVT Natural, highlighted the importance of Botanicals (OleoBoost ™) as a fundamental piece of the puzzle for the effective replacement of AGPs in animal production, during the event Seed to Feed, in Mexico...
1. INTRODUCTION In recent years, the poultry industry in the world has seen significant development and expansion, both in the production of meat or eggs, as the volume of production increased compared to other animal products, As well as the size of increase in meat production were higher than in eggs production [1]. This development and expansion of the poultry industry has been accompanied by a trend in the use of multiple factors for the purpose of increasing productivity,...
