Thank you sir for your motivating comment and we have to work together to mitigate this adverse of nycotoxin in Africa livestock production and most particularly in poultry production, where mycotoxin fingers are traceable to high mortalities, poor weight gain, extreme anorexia, poor hatchability and poor quality DOC all leading to decline in the investors profitability.
LIFA (an NGO) is poised to preach the sermon of consciousness to all poultry farmers in Africa, that the culprit to seriously fight against in the business of poultry is mycotoxin!
Do this and enjoy a maximum return on your investment with the benefit of adequate animal food security in our region.
Please collaborate with LIFA to minimise this plaque in the poultry industry of Africa through extensive capacity development and lobbing for legislative reforms on the mitigation of Aflatoxin and other related mycotoxins.

It may not be possible to completely eradicate micotoxin in Africa for some reasons but effort should be made so that it will be reduced to bearest minimum

Dr. Mamode, Dr. Adjero and Dr. Jimoh,

Thank you for discussing these issues regadrding mycotoxins and other related factors that affect proper animal development. We and other companies have mycotoxins adsorbents, that to a larger or lesser degree, are effective in mitigating this problem. However, it is our experience that end users:
1. Do not want to spend the money to treat their feed until the problem has already reach their animal.
2. They look for the cheapest product per mt of feed disregarding its dosage and proven efficacy.
Thus, professionals such as you, do well in attempting to create a mentality in african producers regarding this issue and the best solutions with the products in the market.
We produce:
Agrabond: for polar and non-polar toxins. 500 gr/mt of feed.
Agrabond AFL: for polar toxins only. 500 gr/mt of feed.
Agrabond Fuzion: hepato-protector, detoxifyer, immuno-stimulant and growth promoter: 350 gr/mt of feed.
The above products are directed to this issue.

Knowing the Nigerian market, I observe few problems which are not common in many parts of the globe. 1.The maize in Nigeria is collected from small holders, one truck can have grain from 20 different farmers. 2.The Nigerian weather is ideal for secondary fermentation/contamination. 3. Most if not all the aluminosilicates polar or non polar working on aflatoxin what about others? 3. Dose of 0.5 kg of your product can protect to what level of toxins, did you test it? 5. Many farmer in Nigeria have feed mill they need fast kit whibcan identify the existence of toxins, what level of toxins, and type for DON, I don't think that silicates are working.

The major problem oF Mycotoxin in poultry feed could be controlled by adding anti fungal with toxin binder to overcome that problem with monitoring and feed analysis to knew level of mycotoxin and which kind of toxin present with controlling the growth rate of chicks.

Thank you Mr Bergerano for introducing the issues of the extensive small scale maize production in Nigeria as the bulk supplier of available grains these farmers lack appropriate HACCP. required for safe aflatoxin maize production. Even bulk of the small and medium scale Miller's and the toll Miller s have no steadily available tool to do a quick test for aflatoxin in Africa. One of the roles of NGO in Africa is to preach the compulsory use of fast kit Whibcan for farm gate aflatoxin check and if possible make available for group of cooperative feed Millers and poultry farmers.

There are many causes of early mortality you have to find out by necropsy the early dead and send the feed to the lab first what is the main mycotoxin 3 things may concern for early mortality 1 miss management in brooding period 2 doc quality or host status ; dehydration? bacterial infection?sudden poor hatchability 3 pathogens or intoxication some toxin from feed water or bedding if mycotoxicosis in the parent you have to check what is the mycotoxin first by necropsy and send feed to lab no data so no information so you cannot make a good decision

Please note the word consequences as distinct from aetiology ie aflatoxin is the predisposing factors to most bacteria infections and vaccination failure in th tropics. Please register with Engormix to re read this article published 6 years ago, but still generating comments because of. The great risk posed by aflatoxin to food security in the humid tropical climate world wide.

Many thanks go to Dr Stephen Adejoro for this important discussion on mycotoxins. One major detrimental effect of mycotoxicoces is the destruction of chief immune organs - spleen, liver, thymus and the bursa because these are the targets of mycotoxins. This makes day old chicks more vulnerable to infections with attendant vaccination failures leading to early chick mortalities. To win the war against mycotoxins , the breeders- grand parents and parent stocks must be protected by incorporating broad-spectrum mycotoxin binders into their rations. Presently, majority of poultry feed procures in Nigeria are yet to incorporate broad-based mycotoxin binders into their feeds . They are avoiding the use of binders simply due to the fact that they want to produce feeds at affordable costs or prices. More awareness and education are needed in this direction.

I have researched bentonite nano particles as aflatoxin binders. Results of analysis with ELISA in batch system, can reduce the contamination level up to 90%, Please, info how to implement the binder on the manufacture of poultry feed. Thank you
