INTRODUCTION Pelleting is the most common form of thermal processing used in broiler feed manufacturing, aggregating the particles of ingredients into a cylinder by means of mechanical pressure, moisture, and temperature. A wide range of temperature and moisture can be used during conditioning, usually from 60°C to 100°C and 12 to 18% moisture (Hancock, 1992). Increase in feed intake (FI) is among the main reasons that motivate agroindustries to pellet feeds...

Introduction The rapid growth of the ethanol industry in the United States during the last decade has resulted in large quantities of ethanol coproducts in the marketplace, which are now commonly available as feed ingredients for livestock and poultry. These coproducts are often added to animal diets as sources of protein and energy. Mineral concentrations in the coproducts are also an important consideration in animal feed formulations. A large portion of ethanol...

On Engormix's Spanish speaking community a great discussion has been originated a few months ago and is covering the experiences in the use of a pellet mill having 2 or 3 roll assemblies. A few manufacturer names came into the picture as CPM and Andritz being the most popular. A great debate between available surface area in the pelleting chamber verse pellet mill capacity has been created and there are some good comments/experiences from either end users or equipment manufacturers. It is my...

This article will make a similarity of both companies from the perspective of the meat byproducts rendering plants. Walmart is the largest and most successful retail company in American history and Kmart was its direct competitor in its early days. Walmart focused on improving its process not only in technology, but it also trained its employees so that they understood the importance of reducing costs without deteriorating the quality and their service, focusing in details. Kmart invested in...

Hi friends, Has anybody used pelletted alfalfa in their dairy cattle rations. If I have chance I want to use it. But I have doubts because of the particular size of the TMR. If I use the alfalfa pellets instead of hay, the particular size of the TMR will be small. And I think this may cause the acidosis, affect the rumen metabolism. So If there is somebody has used it, share us his experiments, I would be glad. Thank you. ...

"You cannot improve what you do not control. You cannot control what you do not measure. You cannot measure what you do not define".  (anonymous) It is very difficult to know where to begin a discussion about feed mill efficiency. Perhaps a good place to start would be a definition of efficiency. The Encarta Dictionary: English (North America) defines efficiency as 1. Competence, the ability to do something well or achieve a desired...

Introduction Feed manufacturing equipment has been shown to be a potential source of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) cross contamination. Wet decontamination has been found to be the most effective method for decontaminating the surface of feed mill equipment. However, this is not practical in most current commercial feed production settings. Methods to mitigate the risk of PEDV transmission in feed and feed ingredients have been investigated, including chemical...
