Doctor Ali
Thanks for your good issue, but we need your new concept about biosecurity, what about pathogen which can be transmitted by air?
Biosecurity is the major need of todays modern poultry industry. In order to meet the challenges of future particularly the production of pathogen free poultry product for export, we have to modify our current practices of biosecurity. Currently we are more focusing on the disinfection and sanitization of farm premesis and houses as it is a vital part of biosecurity strategy but simultaneously we have to think about the sanitization of drinking water and hygiene of feed particularly for breeders. Drinking water and finished feed are best vehicles for most of the enteeric pathogens such as Salmonella, E Coli, Campylobacter and Clostridium and re-contamination of feed and water is the major challenge for a successful HACCP.

Sir,
Thanks for the good article.
Could you give the biosecurity measures to follow in feed mill.
A O A, ramazan mubarak to everyone here in this forum, it is a good effort by dr munawar sb . for the success of a biosecurity programme. it is very important to implement &audit the programme .it is bcs the person implementing the biosecurity measures is not aware of the importance of the operation . normally a shed supervisor is deputed to implement the practice. i think there must b a special admn officer for the monitoring of the foot dip, hand dip ,wheel dip ,concentration of disinfectant in water, contact time, spray procedure etc. whenever the aove mentioned practices r checked ,in 80% cases the result was zero. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO DEPUTE A TECHNICALLY WELL KNOWLAGEABLE PERSON . THIS BIOSECURITY programme is only effective when PROPER DOSING OF DIINFECTANT IS APPLIED. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS R FAVOURABLE .
Dear Dr. Manj,
You are absolutely right and this is common observation particularly in Pakistan that most of the biosecurity programs just fail due to lack of basic knowledge of farm supervisors. The selection of appropriate chemical, its proper dosage and dilution and reasonable contact time is very important to get the 100% results of a program. Water quality is very important in terminal disinfection and especially in Pakistan where water pH and carbonate hardness is very high, most of the commercially available disinfectants do not work. Proper education of veterinarians, supervisors and other farm crew is necessary before implementing a comprehensive biosecurity program.

Dear Dr Neethiraja
Biosecurity of Feed mill is also very important. The big problem in feed mill is Rodents, wild bird and quality of raw materials. Due to grains and finished feed rodents and wild bird can contaminate the feeds. For rodent control try to block all accesses to go downs. You can keep nests to catch rodents and bait station can be made to control rodents. For detail you should consult some entomologist. For wild birds doors of go downs etc should be closed and grains fallen on ground should be cleaned as soon as possible. Please monitor all the raw material for salmonella and e-coli contamination. This is very important part of bio-security. Continuous monitoring from different parts of feed mill is important. Please try to wash and disinfect vehicles used to deliver feed regularly
Dr. Munawar
sense of biosecurity must b created among the workers bcs they r always cheating u. they r cheating everytime when they r entering the premises, changing their clothes, taking shower, using bath soaps, they pretend to have abath only applying water on the body by simply rubbing water on the body, but not taking actual shower especially in winter provided they have warm water facility. what technique is there to know whether he has taken bath or not ,so it is very important to educate the worker about the importance of biosecurity.
Dr Munawar sb,
You have pointed out the most important point in today's poultry production, with every increasing poultry sector there is increasing competition and good bio security gives u an edge on other competitors by reducing infections to poultry flock. The most costly thing in poultry production is disease and if we can prevent it by good bio security it really counts. Training of farm managers and supervisors is most important in this respect.
Hello Mr. Kamran,
Thanks for your article. its really a good strategy to keep disease incidences away from farming premises.
Biosecurity/bio-safety is not a new issue-- it is applicable for every living beings in this world including human being. So it is in fact a great matter to take into consideration b4 establishing farm/firm with a view to run sustainable or lucrative biz. A good management ensures a good safety /security--so to say prevention is better than cure------taking preventive measures are the first and foremost economic step for profitable business.
Dear collegue, thank you for the article, we conducted a study on Biosecurity in poultry farms in Algeria. It is really very difficult to install a system on a farm Biosecurity effective because there has always a risk of seeing pathogenic introduce our farm, due in part to humans or another parameter (animals, food, water, vehicles ......).

Dear.
its so informative and have remind many things but should written the name of pathogens who are trasmitted through wild birds, insects and rodents.
Hi
I am intrested in biosecurty planning, how can I start?
