Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics

Use of Antibiotics in Veterinary Medicine, a Hazard to Human Medicine?

Published: August 29, 2011
Summary
One of our most effective strategies to combat bacterial infections is rapidly becoming ineffective: more and more bacteria are developing resistance against commonly used antibiotics. This is a worrysome development, that, though been recognized for decades, seems to have worsened lately. It is perceived that the speed of resistance development has overhauled the rate of developing alternative d...

Good article and interesting the example of Campylobacter. The use of antibiotic in animal nutrition needs careful consideration due to many associated benefits and health hazards, thus one has to be aware of the factors related to the use of therapeutic use of antibiotic to decide the right type and dose, and duration.al nutrition needs careful consideration due to many assocated benefits and health hazards.

A very good article about the use of antibiotic in animal nutrition  I would however caution to take examples of specific resistances in specific bacteria and based upon the lack of direct correlation between animal use+bacteria+resistance with human situation+bacteria+resistance say there is no direct evidence of problems. This ignores the bacterial commensal pool of bacteria and transmission of resistances between bacterial species such as E. coli and Salmonella. Furthermore, having worked over 10 years in California and seeing many calves die in bloody diarrhoea associated with MDR untreatable Salmonella.. I would like to point out that antimicrobial resistance due to heavy indiscriminate use is an animal welfare problem!

a very good article about antibiotic in animal nutrition indicating a future new approach to combat disease resistance bacteria. Homeopathy drugs surely be a asset to this issue. for example- chronic repiratory disease instead of using tylosin as drug, homeopathic drugs like ACONITE 200 AND ANTIMONY TARTARATE200 can be used .like wise GELESMIUM30 ,KAL PHOS , ACONITE 200 ETC CAN BE USED

If antibiotics ineffective for bacteria, how if we try another natural medicine like herbal as antibiotic replacement.

A very good point of about the use of Antibiotics in Veterinary Medicine. This sort of understanding of the problem of antibiotic resistance needs to be presented to many veterinarians, doctors, and laypersons.

This is a very controversial subject. As there are many other factors that use of antibiotics which could result in some mutation for some bacteria to develop resistance against antibiotics. In stead of banning the use of antibiotics at prophylactic level in animals, it is better to develop some new antibiotics to combat new types of resistant bacteria. As we stop using antibiotics at preventive levels, we face more problems and that always resulted in use of antibiotics at higher levels after animal suffer more from disease and more mortality. In my opinion ban of antibiotics in animals is not a logical solution.

This is a very cunning strategy of developed countries. They are trying to introduce organic acid or phytogenic mixers which has no scientific base.

Antibiotic in animal nutrition has no adverse effect on human medicine, even though animal drugs are much more stronger with higher concentration than that of human, it is helpful in eradicating diseases in animals which can in turn infect human.

Good article about the use of antibiotic in animal nutrition. This remind us those in Veterinary medicine and in animal production to insist adherence on the withdrawal period, biosecurity and avoid of drug abuse.
