Thanks all for valuable information. Dr. Anjum is right enough and all most important points have been posted.

Prolapse can be due to management failure like target body wt ,uniformity, of 10th wk and 16th week and few pathological conditions like worms, enteritis, may be due to calcium and phosphorus balance in ration, and last but not the least, a fat accumulations inside the body, but apart from these one of the most important reason that we observed in india is less insoluble fiber content in your feed and higher metabolic energy in feed. Apart from these conditions, the intensity of light is also one of the major factors of prolapse in laying birds.

Wow
Great and educative comment here and there
In addition to the suggestions made above sudden upsurge in pen ambient temperature or any idiopathic causes that are strong enough to force the bird into sharp or acute straining could as well result to prolapse
Best Management approach to this is Administration of coolants , vitamin and electrolytes

Hi to all
Sir, primarily for prolapse only the reason is rearing if we not attain the weight at perfect period or time, I hope there is no any treatment during prod. period only we can check by providing calcium tab & minerals for a week in months.

Prolapse can be prevented by good management in rearing period. Reaching body target body weight in 5-6 weeks age is the first step in the prevention of prolapse, and body weight and uniformity in 15-13 weeks age (skeletal uniformity) is another important step to preventing it. Early sexual maturation which reproductive organ oviduct is not fully completed especially with a not uniform flock in 15-13 week exacerbate condition of prolapse. Hence it is necessary to have a good lighting program in rearing according to house form a condition to reaching good body weight and uniformity in 6 and 13 weeks of age, on one side, and prevent early sexual maturation on the other side. This management approach will prevent the prolapse in start of production.
As everybody knows, the feed consumption per bird in start of production in under 100 grams the ration must be reached in calcium and phosphorous because this mineral act in contraction to expel the egg from cloaca and also to fast retract it. To prevent a very early increase in egg size it is better to calculate and prepare protein according to SID amino acid, not crude protein.

Genetic factor such as gene introduction for larger eggs in smaller frame birds can be a big factor of prolapse, specially during first few weeks of production

Dear Dr. Chandra the average weight(1500 grams) of your bovans flock in 23 weeks age is good for better understanding your flock problem it is necessary to evaluate some item as bellow :
1- How much is the uniformity of your flock ? in this age it must be more than 85% how many of bird,s weight are lower and under the 10% of average weight? if the rate is high the problem is worse.
2- if uniformity is good the question is did your flock start production early than that time you expected?
3- how much is the egg weight? is it more than the Hendrix company recommend? in this age it must be 54-53 grams if it is heavier please check feed consumption grams per bird it must be about 100-95 grams. if it is more please check the house temperature and feed formula .
4- If the temperature is lower than 20 celsius and velocity and speed of air is more than 1 meter per second must be correct.
5- Feed formula must be calculated based on amino acid not crude protein because the Bovnas genetically tends to produce large eggs in start of production and it may induce prolapse and also enough amount of calcium and phosphorous.

Prolapse and pecking related problem among Lohman breed is a serious case in Nigeria. This breed does excellently well in terms of low mortality during rearing and high egg production during laying.
Mortality sets in as the birds, Lohman reach peak production and never stops.
Farmers loose up to 30% of the flock. Beak trimming was not helpful. Many other measures were not helpful too.
The problem is generally seen as a genetic problem because these same farmers are doing well with other breeds such as ISA

Hi Dr ogbu samuel oluwah:
I,am veterinarian in IRAN as you and it is about 30 years working in a Barekat Company that have Ground Parent,-Parent breeder- , commercial layer chicken - also pullets and layer in production. have about 35% share in market . we are working whit Lohmann breed LSL lite for 15 years and before we worked by Hy-line W36- Bovans and Hisex breeds . according to my experience prolapse is due to managemental failure in rearing period not a genetic problem .in our company we rear about 3 millions of pullets for our company for egg production annually i never seen prolapse in this 30 years especially in Lohmann breed LSL LITE . also as a veterinarian and practitioner i worked whit Lohmann Brown breeder and commercial,s also DEKAL Brown breeder and commercial,s and prevented prolapse by earing and sexual maturity of all . i believe strongly that prolapse in due to management failure .

Prolapse is mostly a management issue. Could be because of improper body weight at onset of egg production, faulty lighting schedule and maybe because of high fibre feed. To have uniformity in flock we must use crumble feed at least up to 12 wk age and then followed by mash feed and control light intensity and lighting programme as recommended by breeding company.

I quite agreed with Mr. Mangalmurti Pathak's comments simply because I have 10 years of experience in brooding or rearing and presently I am rearing 200.000 birds and I worked with different veterinarians and expert, that's exactly what I found out, especially the lighting program and crumble feed for starting but I am able to get the best light program from one of the experts I worked with. Thanks sir keep on elite the world.

Dear poultry experts, I agree with all the points suggested by you, such as body weight, uniformity of 85-90%,Egg weight, e.t.c. May be a breed character... early maturity and production of big size eggs. pullout the cloaca,
Pl check the lighting arrangement in deep litter system. Further check.... is it real prolapse or peckout. If the beaks are not properly trimmed the birds develop a habit of feather pecking and peckout. and pullout of all the viscera.

One of the major causes of prolapse in advanced laying birds is microbial induced salpingitis especially from E.coli.

Dear Experts,
Kindly don't ignore the Body frame development during rearing too,
It seems mostly bad uniformity also plays a role in Prolapse cases.

Nanyonga Esther, It can stop among the flock if the cause is known and adjusted. Example If it is caused by excessive light when they are coming into lay, it has to be reduced. If it is caused by bacteria induced salpingitis, it has to be treated. But the affected ones is difficult to treat because the holding connective tissues that hold the reproductive tract inside the chicken is weak and compromised. A good surgeon can attempt purse string sutures!

Feeds and feeding, disease, lighting and stunted growth are common factors that lead to prolapse.identifying the underlined cause can lead to the control of the problem.
