Vaccines are used to prevent or reduce problems that can occur when a poultry flock is exposed to field disease organisms. Vaccinations should be thought of as insurance. Like insurance, there is a price to be paid for protection against a potential threat. Costs include price of the vaccine, time spent designing the vaccination schedule and administering the vaccines, and losses due to vaccine ...

This article is bring the revolution in poultry immunology concepts. The majority of issues related to vaccination are covered under topic & are helpfull for the readers of this site. This illustrate that Prevention is better than Cure butonly when Vaccination program have utilized & planned in proer direction.
I want to update some issues related to method of vaccination & expect some guidelines to readers from the Author o below points
1) As in many parts of india Live boosters are given in drinking water so what precautions shoild be taken while doing so?(Water Quality, How to Maintain Cold chain, How much quantity of water to be taken etc) 2) More Emphasis to analyse Maternal antibidy titres on Day Old of Chick & then Schedule the vaccination program. 3) How much time gap should be there betwwen two succeeding vaccines? 4) What are the clinical signs & lesions in vaccine reactions & on which day after vaccination that avails? 5) What is the role of ND titre with overall health status of bird. 6) Is vaccination advisable in outbreaks of diseases?
Its a crisp n to the point piece of helpful information. This is just in time information, coz performance expectation form bird is so high that stress and immuno-suppression has become common.Proper vaccination and biosecurity are the key words for sustainance. This article has touched that well
Vaccination failures is a major challange to poultry production in the tropics ,and this article is very appropriate and relevant to current field challanges in this region Apart from the numerous reasons identified by the aurthor of the article, I wish to add that the core external and nutritional challanges that need immediate solution for tropical climate are: -The problem of inadequate space provision that often lead to social stress as the birds are growing, thereby leading to the break down in immunity.more inportantly is the problem of microtoxins , especially aflatoxin Bi ,DON,Ochratoxin,T-2toX and Fumonisin which may occure singularly or a s a mixture in raw materials used for feed formulation in the tropics The immunological effect of these toxins do interfare with production of specific antibody by inhibition of cell proliferation ,as well as altering cytokin production. These effects on lymphocyte and cytokin production had been identified as responsible for vaccination failures and most especially in the tropics Recent technology and innovation of Nanotechnology and other safety devises including HACCP Analysis in poultry production must be properly integrated to find a lasting solution to mycotoxin immuned depression In the last European poultry conference held at Tours France this contributor displayed a postal presentation on Mareks vaccination failures in the tropics and came acrross new Nanoproducts that will finally offer the required soluton to the problem in the tropics I congratulate the author of this article for stimulating more reactions to this major problem of poultry production Thanks
The author provide very valuable information about the failure of vaccine in poultry.
Author has the opinion that failure is mostly due to vaccine and presence of high maternal antibodies temperature. In case of live vaccine the role of water quality, water temperature is not discussed. while applying inactivated vaccine the storage and thawing process also not discussed. On the other hand article is good effort from this article we can easily conclude the causes of vaccine failure
Good and comprehensive effort on vaccine.Just like health insurance in humans, vaccination should be thought of as insurance in poultry. As in the article, if the
chicken do not develop adequate antibody titer levels or are susceptible to field
disease out break, than the vaccination occur.
Stress or immunosuppression is the main factor to reduce the chicken ability to
mount an immune response. chicken should not be vaccinated during period of
stress. The term immunosuppression refers to the circumstances where non-cellular
(antibodies) and cellular components of the immune system not functioning properly.
Vaccine are two main types, Killed virus vaccine and Live virus vaccine.
Missed with killed vaccines will result in chickens with no protection, as killed
vaccines will not spread from bird to bird.
Live virus vaccine, first immunoglobulins are detected after 4 to 5 days and
additional 2 or 3 days are required for titer to protective levels. Live vaccine
may be inactivated during improper handling. At last in a poultry operation,
The main objective should be disease prevention, maintain the health of the
flock and to increase the profit.
This very good article well researched and outlined. You need to have a good biosecurity . which will not have a pathogens circulating in the area .If you vaccinate in contaminated environment its money inthe drain and more problems for you during the growing period.
I want to pull the attention of Author on below points related to mode of vaccination.
Same way expect the help and guidelines from all the readers too
1) As in many parts of India Live boosters are given in drinking water so what precautions should be taken while doing so?(Water Quality, How to Maintain Cold chain, How much quantity of water to be taken etc)
2) More Emphasis to analyze Maternal antibody titres on Day Old of Chick & then Schedule the vaccination program.
3) How much time gap should be there between two succeeding vaccines?
4) What are the clinical signs & lesions in vaccine reactions & on which day after vaccination that avails?
5) What is the role of ND titre with overall health status of bird.
6) Is vaccination advisable in outbreaks of diseases?
