It is well know from Bayer and other companies, to try to involve formaldehyde as antimicrobial agent in animal protection. Use of organic acids and formaldehyde has been in practice for a considerably long time with excellent results., Of course, proper formulation part is the art of product safety.

Formaldehyde is prohibited by most countries of the world to be used in fumigation due to its carcinogenisis effect on human being. Most of the companies producing feed & water disinfectant use formaldehyde and organic acids to control pathogens of animals. It is very safe and practical to use such product it producing hyagenic feeds & foods and it is giving excellent results and reducing use of Antibiotics which is more dangerous than carcinogenics .

Good but controversial study, inclusion rate for bacterial control is also debatable. But still good research work.

Using of Formaldehyde in EU and some other countries are fully ban , regarding the study and practical approach by the Feeds companies to combact the Pathogens still there are certain other methods to reduce the disease challanges like Heat Treated feeds etc . Yes for the water acidification the Organic acid give very good and excellnt results every where in the world . Dear colleges, Using of the raw formaldehyde in the feed is more dangerous for Both feed Production people as well as the birds. Some time it may cause NE in Birds mostly if we are using continuously in the feed. The Organic acids can be used effectively in the water to get good effect towards sanitization of drinking water and it can be easily checked by cross verification of the PH of Water ( Even PH papers can be used for the same). During New Maize season also ( If Maize is More than 16 % Moisture ) we can use the organic acids to control the mould growth in the feed. Now a days it is very essential to control the mould growh in the finished feed with this grains shortage world.

Article is good but I agree with Dr Farooks opinion , Use of organic acids is far better than formaldehyde which is practically giving excellent results .

we have seen great results after using organic acids and formaldehyde in broilers and layers.of course the best result was after using organic acids + probiotics or + phytobiotics which has no side effect and also are not carcinogen . The organic acids will work very well in controlling the gram negative gut pathogens only in the acidic pH of Proventriculus and Gizzard as the acids are in undissociated form here. Where as at neutral pH prevailing at crop and Intestine, the acids are in dissociated form and there by unable to penetrate into the bacterial cell and subsequently there won't be any bactericidal activity. The efficacy of the organic acids will depend on the following factors 1. Acids used and its synergistic combinations 2. Dosage (breeding and laying diets will require more dosage when compare to chick and grower diets) 3. Type of Pathogens 4. Pathogen Load

Dear All, We have conducted the Field study on " Efficacy of Short Chain fatty acids(Organic Acids) on Water Quality". Under this program, we have collected around 200 Water samples from different sources(farms) and localities( Area). It was found that deep bore well water has more PH and hardness and required more doses of organic acid to bring the PH of water below permissible limit. Also the hard water after treatment with Organic acid shows less PH stability at room temperature so its need to consume the same ASAP. Else Organic Acid specially Acetic acid is the best remedy to control the harmful micro flora in drinking water.
