The Avian Coccidiosis

Published: November 26, 2020
Summary
Is a parasitic disease caused by protozoan of the genus Eimeria , affecting virtually all domestic and wild poultry species. The disease transmission is fecal-oral, by ingesting sporulated oocysts present in the litter, from faeces from infected birds, although a mechanical transmission is also possible through dust, utilities, workers' clothing... The course of the disease (clinical/subcli...

Dr. Syed Imam Shah Dear Dr. Syed Many thanks for your interest in the product. As indicated, COCCILIP is composed by several plant extracts with other technical components, which are all duly authorized for its use in animal nutrition. Due to the different plant extracts included in the product, we could say the way of action is multifactorial, direct and indirec: Direct activity over Eimeria (blocking the full development of the coccidia cycle) and over C. perfringens, and indirect activity , acting as gut health enhancer favouring non appropiate conditions for the pathogen development. Regards

CARLOS LOPEZ TOME Dear Senor CARLOS LOPEZ TOME I can note that the mechanism of action of the product is described very vaguely. It is not clear how, and at what specific stage, the product affects the Eimeria. It is also not clear how it destroys the pathogen, could it be the destruction of the cell membrane? Could it be the inhibition of the 4-Aminobenzoic acid? What?

PHILIP QUINN Dear Philip Coccilip formulation is the result of a long research looking for the most effective combination of herbal extracts and other technical components. Product is manufactured following EU standards, and all its components are duly authorized for its use in animal nutrition in EU. In the case of phytobiotic products, more important than the qualitative composition is how are they combined and in which proportion, in order to take advantage as much as possible of their sinergies. Dear Muhammad Hassan Due to the resistances generated by chemical coccidiostats and the higher legislative pressure about its use, coccidia vaccines are becoming more popular as a new option or one more alternative in the rotation programs, the same than Coccilip products. In the case of Coccilip products, we have activity against the different Eimeria species affecting poultry. In the case of your question about the MOA of Coccivac B, I would suggest you to contact the manufacturer/supplier of the vaccine, who would be the right person to give the details about its specific way of action. Best regards Carlos L.

Well cleaned, disinfected chicken house, then chicks placed with optimal ventilation& heat with constant appraisal of litter quality + adequate & quality feeds has worked for me in up to 5,000 chicks, only depending on the coccidiostat in the feeds.

Dear Dr. Humphrey Mbugua,
Completely agree that correct coccidia management includes all of the aforementioned factors: cleaning, disinfection, climate control, farm management, feeding, biosecurity measures.

Dear Aripin Drh,

Essential oils have multidirectional mode of action, in case of coccidiosis the most important properties of essential oils is its capability to increase the permeability of ooquists wall and also to protect the intestine epithelium from adhesion of sporozoits and squizonts.

Dear Khristoffer C. Villanueva
As far as the severity of the infection depends also on the quantity of oocyst ingested by the animal, establishing adequate cleaning and disinfection protocols are crucial in the prevention program.
Ammonium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid, peracetic acid…are among the alternatives, alone or in combination.
We shall not forget also other biosecurity measures like keeping drinkers and feeders in height, litter management, ventilation…
