Sprinklers Cool Birds and Conserve Water

Published: October 30, 2018
Summary
Introduction Keeping birds comfortable during hot, humid weather is critical for optimizing weight gains, feed conversion and livability. Improved growth rates and the trend to heavier average market weights contribute to greater heat loads in modern broiler barns. For regular heat stress controlling more water consumption required for sprinklers which is not possible for all poultry farms in all places, other alternative way of controlling heat stress is to be planned. Heavy plantation in and around the farm preferably with mosquito repellent, coolant and heat absorbent trees may be tried to reduce heat stress to some extent.

Quite an insightful information. I’ve some questions though: What will be the situation in the tropics where majority of houses use natural ventilation instead EC houses? There are seasons of heat stress that compromise performance. Can sprinklers be used and rely on the wind to blow in the dry outside air?
