Figure 1. FAPP Poultry house at UGA Poultry Research Center With growing concerns about avian influenza some poultry producers are wondering if there are ways to filter the air coming into their houses. Though on the surface this may seem like a good idea, the fact is that filtering incoming air is extremely difficult and costly. Furthermore, we must ask ourselves if filtering the air enterin ...

Enrique Alfonso Valverde Díaz De León Sodium Diformate does not extend the acidification past the proventriculus. There is too much buffering in the Duodenum. However, in the acidic foregut and in acidic micro-environments like at the brush border membrane, formate HCOO- can pick up H+ to become HCOOH again. Once that happens, it becomes non-polar and can be absorbed across microbial ...

It is a common mistake to think about water treatment as something to be done only at the end of production. As Brian says, control needs to begin early on in the flow, and needs to be maintained throughout in order to keep the pressure on the microbes. We will be presenting some data on feed and water acidification using formic acid at PSA this summer. We found that continuous water acidification ...

INTRODUCTIONMinerals are needed for all normal life processes and the physiological importance of minerals for farm animals, including poultry, is well documented (Spears, 1999; Underwood and Suttle, 1999). Recommendations for mineral requirements of poultry are available (NRC, 1994), but these are based on research with older strains and are inadequate and outdated for modern strains of poultry ( ...

Excellent article, covering in quite simply way all aspects of phytates /phytase /phosphorus.
I like it very much. Just some additional words.
1.phytase unit: there is more than one unit name and value. The registration conditions (eg.pH 5,5, temp 37C, 1 min....) are same but other factors (the buffer, colorant, etc in lab conditions) are different. Eg.one unit FTU (Du Pont) is not equall to FYT (DS ...
