This is a nice article. We are trying to increase our productivity of animals through selective, crossbreeding and upgrading of animals. However, our farmers and dairy entrepreneurs lack knowledge on NEB aspect in detail. It is high time to educate all in these aspect to reduce loss due to Mastitis, metritis, as well as production loss due to metabolic diseases.
How to educate the farmers about these problems? Feed marketing people have a big responsibility to educate farmers, through literature and field trials.

This article has reviewed the interaction of negative energy balance with health and fertility disorder in a systemic way; a good attempt to clarify the mechanism. Our studies on dairy buffaloes have suggested that low energy intake associated with poor body condition of buffaloes (BCS<2.75), may be a key factor for low reproductive efficiency in the animals. Improving the pre- and postpartum nutrition of such animals is likely to overcome the problem.Excess intake of crude protein, associated with increasing serum urea levels, may lead to delayed postpartum ovarian activity in Nili-Ravi buffaloes under field conditions.
This is an important and informative article on NEB in dairy cattles because it relates NEB in dairy cattles to the overall performance of cattles in terms of production,reproduction,and health status of a cattle during NEB. It also describes the methods by wich an animal can be protected from the effects of NEB such as by feeding energy/proteins rich diet in lator part of second/third trimester of pregnancy,feeding of gluconeogenic precursor during peripartum period and a high level of drymatter and energy intake.
This article provides knoweledge about how to controll NEB to improve the productivity and reproduction of the animals. According to our previous lecture given by our faculty Dean, Prof, Dr M. Subhan Qureshi on NEB, our knoweledge about this topic increased by studying this articles. Thanks and appreciation to the author by doing such a great work.
Thanks Fida; of course NEB management would be essential for getting desired results in maintaining the animals fertile, healthy and productive. The whole process is regulated by the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal pathway, hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and the growth and lactation controlling mechanisms. The final out come is determined by the cell signalling of the remote organs coordinated by genes and genes products, prioritizing nutrients flows for various body functions. We as dairy scientists must understand these phenomenon and advise the farmers for adopting appropriate strategies, especially for managing highly productive animals under the local environmental, management and socio-economic conditions of the tropical regions.

We thanks for publishing this article. This is high time to educate our technical collegue regarding the NEB concept so that in turn message will go to masses- for Dairy farmers. A simple tool can improve instant productivity , inprovement in reproduction efficiency and timely conception increase economic stability of rural farmers,reduction in use of hormones in breeding indiscrimately saving huge money of poor farmers of globe. this will help to bring back farmer right back to farming and save earth by providing natural manure and energy.
