Muhammad Farooq Dear Dr.Farooq, the price of probiotic is depending on the manufacturer. In Ukraine, cost of Bacillus subtilis+Bacillus licheniformis (own production of Kronos Agro Ltd) per tonn of feed is approx. 3,0 USD. I think so, it is not so expensive, but very good for human health.

Haroon Mushtaq You can replace AGPs with Bacillus Subtitles, in most of the year there is no problem. I faced some problems in the hot and humid periods in Broiler Breeders.

Amin Nahal Try a patent bacillus subtillis, This will improve growth and also manage clostridium peferengies

Thanks all for your comments. In these data presented in St Louis, we clearly demonstrated that bacillus Subtilis 29784 improved performance (standard and challenged conditions) thanks to their metabolites able to control overall inflammation (activation of NfkB pathway) and to improve gut integrity (expression of tight junction). This could also occur indirectly through the shift of microbiota of beneficial bacteria.

How could you reach on this conclusion? What was the birds fed? A probiotic containing Bacillus subtilis only? Or was Bacillus subtilis the only strain identified in fecal or digesta material?

Alemu Regassa , the solution refered in this talk is a bacillus subtilis-based probiotic fed to the birds as spores and able to germinate at the gut level. We have just presented at the last IPPE new reference data on in vivo germination.

Damien Preveraud, thank you for your response. Can you please elaborate a bit on thermostability of this probiotic? Will it withstand ~90C that’s usually observed in our country during Summer time? If yes, then what’s the technology behind?

Haroon Mushtaq ; as explain by Ankur, probiotic is fed to broilers as spores forms, able to resist very high temperature and pressure. It was one of the main specifications we were looking at when we developed the product.
Spores will germinate in the intestine. We have just presented original data and scientific in vivo prove at the last IPPE.

Dear Haroon,

Hi I am working with a company with similar strains of Probiotics and
Let us try to answer your question in this way:

A). The vegetative form of Bacillus bacteria grows with a temperature optimum between 30 and 40 °C but spores are mostly resistant to 95-100 C.

B). Spores that form in Bacillus type bacteria provide dormancy at high temperature because enzyme proteins change shape as the spore dehydrates. These tough capsules form in response to adverse conditions such as drought or high temperatures.

Based on your knowledge on the subject, Dr. Damien, I would like to know if the bacillus strain used produces the BSH enzyme, which is common in some strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria also used as probiotics. This is because this enzyme by hydrolyzing bile salts can harm birds in which the oil is used in the food. And I would also like to know if there is a possibility that this strain transfers antibiotic resistance to pathogenic microorganisms.

dear Professor Juarez Donzele , thanks for your interesting questions.
1/ We did not investigate this enzyme secretion.
2/ Also, regarding your question on antibiotic resistance, we have selected our probiotic strain specifically to meet regulatory guideline, and we show negative results (no resistance gene detected) for each antibiotics tested.

Would Bacillus subtilis 29784 develop spores outside of d bird's bodies? or how are the spores develop?

I would like to know what cells were used for the TEER assay? Were these chicken cells or Caco-2 cells?

dear Michael McGrew : Caco-2 cells obtained from ATCC were used. You can have all detailled info in the following paper: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2019.00564/full
