Very informative and good article it will help the Layers housing peoples , i would like here to add some things more for the right size of eggs is to Take care of the body weight in first 5 weeks is very important , and then also to change of the feed , followed by correct body weight at the age 16 weeks will also help for the good size of eggs .
The other thing is that some is using crumbs feed for the whole period of Layer cycle , they should think to add extra coarse limestone during the pre lay feeding and also during the laying cycle earlier than facing the facing the problems of egg shell even with a good strain of Layer breed , as by using the crumbal Feed the use of fine calcium is not so much digestable and it passes out and the birds starts to consums it resvers from the body and then the problem starts after 40 wks of productions and may be remains till last ,
( studies and exp; confirmed it )
Thanks again for very nice and informative discussion over here at the Forum.
Very good article. The Egg size in the early stage is a major concern now a days because Now the Egg price determined by Egg size also in some places.
The Same time Body weight Management as well as the Cumulative Energy and Protein intake till the pre lay stage also determine the egg size in the early stage.

Very good article. Thanks Dr.Duraisamy. Sure, nutrition & body weight at sexual maturity play vital role in the egg size & weight. Thanks for discussing various other aspects also.
Dear Mr. Rajendran,
I am really thankful for highlighting on the early egg size problem in commercial layers.
Pullet eggs have more importance in layer farming economics and you have highlighted on the issue very elaborately.
In future we expect from you to do the comparative case study on different layer strains available in India with special emphasis on its economics which will be helpful to many layer farmers to select their strains accordingly.

Dear Duraisamy,
Your article is excellent and very informative.
I would like to add one of my observations as to egg size.
During growing one has to be very sure that by 1th week the pullet should attain the standard bodyweight and if lower than standard they need to be corrected and if more than standard no attempt should be made to correct body weight after 15th week. Also lisght stimulation only be given to the standard one below standard one group first need to be nourished to attain the standard body weitht before giving the light stimulations.
Thanks and regards,
