A combination of direct fed microbials and xylanase, amylase and protease enzymes improve nutrients digestibility, gut health, performance and welfare of broilers

Feed cost is one of the greatest challenges in animal production. Feed enzyme applications have been developed to extract the greatest nutrient potential from these variable diets while aiming to reduce feed costs. Improved bird performance through feed enzyme technology is achieved by enhanced digestion, nutrient absorption and managing gut health via nutrient availability. As we move into an era of reduced antibiotic usage, Bacillus direct-fed microbials (DFMs) are gaining increased attention for their ability to support the development of the intestinal microbiota and contributions to intestinal homeostasis. This diverse bacterial genus is an ideal candidate for animal feed DFM applications due to the inherent ability of Bacillus to withstand extreme environmental conditions, such as those experienced during the pelleting process. Synergy between feed enzymes and Bacillus DFMs has previously been observed and this paper will focus on some of the most recent advances in this new generation of feed technology.
