Introduction
The first research work in lighting management for commercial poultry was conducted by Morris in the 1960´s. This work described the lighting management for egg-type layers, a tool that had not been used before. Since then, egg-type layers have lost their seasonal response to daylength (Morris et al., 1995) and do not respond physiologically to light stimuli as other birds...
Excellent work on lighting management in broiler breeder stock. In Pakistan we provide 1-5 lux intensity for 8 hours up to 140-154 days We stimulate the bird with 4 hours jump.(Light intensity is 40-60 lux) (depending upon recommendation from breeder company). And then gradually we provide 16 hours light up to 25-26 week for whole period of production. We have dark housed wit us.
Dear Dr Munawar,
It is very difficult to make a recommendation without looking at the whole picture. Your rearing programmes, weight control, etc will have a large impact on when you apply your lighting programmes. If you are following the breeder's instructions and applying the local knowledge, your hens will tell you if things are OK. How is production? That will give a good indication of your management.
Good luck!
