Es posible hacer uso de calentadores de ambiente con carbón o madera como combustible??? Existen experiencias tanto para clima cálido (20 - 30 grados centígrados) como para clima frío (10 - 20 Grados Centígrados)?? Is it possible to use environment heaters with coal or wood as fuel??? Is there any experience in hot (20 - 30ºC) and cold (10 - 20ºC) weather??

Dear Julio Roberto, Thanks for the question. We have used coal and wood heaters long time in Pakistan. Unfortunately it become very difficult to make even temperatures throuhout the shed. The air quality is also very poor when we use these kinds of heaters. I have a 27 years practical experience of rearing birds. In Northern India temperatures in winter go down as low as 0 degree Celsius and during summer as high as 48 degrees. Nearly 90 percent farmers use sawdust fired heaters with excellent results. The only condition is appropriate number of heaters, proper distribution in shed, good quality of sawdust, and the frequency of igniting the heaters at proper intervals.

Dear Dr. K.S. Arora, Very glad to see your comments. The temperatures you mentioned are exactly the same in Pakistan. As I mentioned earlier we have used these kinds of heaters many years, but ultimately we came to conclusion that it is very difficult to have uniform temperature througout the shed. The temperature near the heater is more as compared to some distance. You are exactly right that we can put more heaters but even than you cannot have required temperature every whare. Another problem is taht you will have to fill these heaters all the time (day and night). There is wastage of energy because there is no thermostatic controls on heaters. Many times if it is not handled correctly a lot of smoke may be gathered in shed, which may cause respiratory problems. Waiting further comments about the article.
