Pig farm Odor

Solution For Pig farm Odor

Published: October 29, 2008

Revolutionary new solution for offensive odors from pig farms

Pork is one the most popular sources of food for mankind.

Production of pork has been increasing in many parts of the world today.

At the same time however, the environmental consequences of pig farming is of increasing public concern particularly offensive odors emitted from pig manure, urine and waste water.

Deodorization Pipe presents a revolutionary new solution for offensive odors from pig farms.

Shoushuu-Kan (Deodorization Pipe)

Shoushuu-Kan means Deodorization Pipe in Japanese.

The structure of Deodorization Pipe

The transparent reinforced plastic pipes are filled with ceramic tips combined with oxidized metals (metals-oxide).

How the Deodorization Pipe works

The energy of sunlight especially ultraviolet rays produces electrons after reacting with ceramic tips.

Supplied water through Deodorization Pipe is converted to the function water from the normal water.

How normal water is converted into function water

After producing electrons, the ceramic chips replenish electrons through the resolution of water molecules.

The production of hydrogen occurs in the processed water.

This processed water (hydrogenate water) becomes “function water” which then affects and activates the normal bacterial flora in pigs’ bowel.

Thus it functions as deterrent to odor causing bacterials.

As a result, odors from pig manure are reduced tremendously.

(The above mentioned account is based on our hypothesis).

The effects of the Deodorization Pipe

The effects of “function water” on pigs as their drinking water.

  • Decrease of odors in pig manure and urine.
  • Decrease of volume of pig manure (Speed of fermentation to be fertilizer is very fast.)
  • Decrease of odors of septic tanks.

How to install the Deodorization Pipe

The Deodorization Pipe only needs to be installed to the existing water supply pipe. (It is that simple!).

Only one Deodorization Pipe is required per 1,000 pigs.

If in the case the water supply is not sterilized, the Deodorization Pipe may get covered with algae (water bloom). Therefore, a normal water sterilization system is required in order to maintain the normal function of Deodorization Pipe.

Cleaning of Deodorization Pipe

The stains inside deodorization pipe make the works of the deodorization pipe declined.

So cleaning of pipe is required once in several months.

When you clean up deodorization pipe, catalyst chips should be taken out from the plastic pipe and put into the bowl full of water with a little bit chlorine for one night.

Then wash them by water and reset.

Pictures of Installation

The "Deodorization Pipe" has been used in more than 100 pig farms in Japan and Korea.

In Kagoshima where we are located, it is adopted also for some public works projects.

Outside of Japan, it has been sold and installed in Korea, China and Taiwan.

Actual decreasing figures of odor substances and Odor index under experimental usage of Deodorization Pipe

The below inspection results were achieved by using “Triangle odor bag method” during pre-installation and post installation of the Deodorization Pipe.

The result analysis shows that odor substances decreased by 90% from 1,300 to 130 in 3 months after the installation of the Deodorization Pipe in a pig farm.

It also shows that the odor index was decreased from 31 to 21. This means that a tremendously strong odor changed to a relatively mild odor.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Environment, the odor substance (odorant) index of 1,300 means that 1,300 times of odor-free air is required until a participant in the experiment can no longer recognize the odor.

The decrease of odorant index figure from 1,300 to 130 means that the odorant was decreased by 1,170 times when diluted with odor-free air.

Stall environment improvement and economical efficiency of livestock improvements

Bad odors and harmful gases start to disappear 1 month after installation of Deodorization Pipe.

Diarrhea, respiratory diseases and number of deaths start to decrease as soon as 3 months after installation.

The growth rate of pigs accelerate due to their comfortable, stress-free state, and productivity increases significantly with faster shipping dates and better pork grades. Just by installing “Deodorization Pipe”…

Miracles start to occur…

“Deodorization Pipe” not only gets rid of odor but even increases productivity

Direct effects of the Deodorization Pipe:

It activates movement of microorganisms in the intestine to increase feed efficiency, and innovatively reduces production or secretion of harmful gases or bad odor.

Observations after installation of the Deodorization Pipe and economical analysis:

Main observations after installation of Deodorization Pipe

Economic benefits

1. The pig stables do not smell.
(Annual ammonia gases are 11ppm or less)

*No environmental improvement or antibacterial material cost.
*Ventilation in the winter is decreased, reducing heating cost.
*Reduction of pigs’ stress due to gas.
*Reduction of respiratory diseases due to harmful gases.

2. The farm surroundings do not smell.

*Civil problems due to smell are completely solved.
*The repulsive image of “smelly pig farms” disappears.

3. The excretion on the scrapper do not smell.

*Eliminates unpleasant feeling of people working to handle excretion due to smell.

4. The excretion handling area does not smell.

*Solves civil problems due to smell.
*Image of pig farm that is smelly, disappears.

5. The purification equipment does not smell.

*Civil problems due to smell are solved.
*The purification process becomes quicker and there is no smell from discharge.

6. Excretion does not smell.

*Scattering is possible without separately storing liquefied manure.
*Excretion becomes middle ripe compost which is almost complete ripe compost so scattering is possible without separately storing liquefied manure.
*Solves civil problems due to smell from scattering liquefied manure.

7. Digestion diseases decrease largely.

*Diarrhea is reduced due to activation of microorganisms in intestine.
*Reduction of illness, complications and deaths due to diarrhea.
*Reduction of diarrhea treatment cost.

8. Weight of weaning animals increase.

*Increase of flux.
*Reduction of diarrhea and deaths of nursing animals.
*Weight of weaning animals increase, increasing MSY.

9. Respiratory diseases decrease.

*Reduction of illness, complications and deaths due to pneumonia.
*Reduction of pneumonia treatment cost.
*Faster growth speed.

10. Shipping schedules become faster.

*Shipping date becomes 10~15 days faster.
*Pork rotation becomes faster.

11. Pork grades become better when shipping.

*Additional income due to better pork grade.

12. Pipes become cleaner after installation.

*After installation biofilm(moss, etc.) on pipes is gradually eliminated, getting rid of blockage.

If you would like to elimlnate the odor in the barn you have to retrofit the manure collection and removal system. It means exclude manure storing in or around the barn.
Please read my proposal at Engormix Manure management odor and diseases control. If you will need more information please contact me.

Thank you
