Professional experience:
I am a Professor of Animal Science at the University of New England (UNE), Armidale, Australia. I studied in Nigeria (BSc Honours, First Class), Scotland (MSc) and Australia (PhD and Graduate Certificate in Higher Education). I have been involved in research and tertiary teaching since 1987, working first in Nigeria, then South Africa and currently Australia. My main area of research is poultry nutrition, with specialization in gastrointestinal physiology although I have previously been involved in research and teaching on other animal species, including sheep, goats, pigs, cattle and ostrich. I have graduated 20 PhD, 9 Masters and 2 Honours students and currently supervise 5 PhD students, at various stages of their programmes. I have also supervised 5 post-doctoral research fellows and hosted a number of visitors in my group. To date, I have secured research funding of over $3.62m and supervised students and research visitors from scholarships and bursaries worth $2.12m. I have undertaken some administrative roles, including being Postgraduate Coordinator of a large School at the UNE for two years. I serve on a number of University committees and have been consultant to companies involved in the poultry and feed industries. I am on the editorial board of 8 scientific journals and regularly review for other journals. I have published 121ournal papers, and presented 161 conference papers, 24 of them on invitation.
