Integrators usually operate the mills at full capacity and outputs rather than trying to obtain the optimum pellet quality. The advantages of feeding a pelleted feed over mash have been documented in the industry for many years. The advantages include the following: Increased bulk density Less bridging/hang-up in bins Less dust Reduced ingredient segregation Less feed waste Increased nu...
A nice article which talks about the advantage of double paddle, microbial load reduction due t pasterization and thus FCR improvement. It has been mentioned that moiture addition is critical and most pellet mills can handle max 18% moisture in preconditioned mash. I could not reach this 18% moisture. Is there any way to improve this?
Interesting article about Better Pellets with preconditioning. You can try using emulsifier. Add it with water then spray in mixer. Although 18% is really high, you might need to add more emulsifier in ratio with water.

In this article about Better Pellets with preconditioning, it is mentioned retention times since 30 s to 5 min, a great range. Which would be the best retention time?
You mentioned in the article that the complete recipe is ground at average 600 microns.
What percentage of recipe passing through 600 microns is usually recommended. I mean, it is not necessary to get the 100 percent at 600 microns. So what is the appropiated wire that we coul set into the hammer mill? May be 2mm diameter? 3 mm? Im talking of a recipe for bovins, cows...
Good article about Pellets. A good conditioniing will increase the digestability of feed by animal. so injection of steam and points of steam are also be monitered. the Tome Temperature( Time Temperature & Moisture) the retention time at conditioner , and steam quality, effeciency to mix it well and penitration of moisture. so now a days conditoning of pellets are most help ful for good growth and also for long water stability.
If any study about improving the cattle feed quailty with pre conditiong process. Please share.
What should be the ideal retention time in pre conditioning ,if we use ingredients like cotton cake ,rice doc, mustard doc?
It’s a good and detailed article on pellet quality. We feel around 3 minutes should be preconditioning time which ensures better gelatinisation. Running pellet mill continuesly always gives better quality pellets. Regard.
It is necessary to know and have experience on the specific pelleting equipment and to know what the feeding program requires to understand the specific requirements for quality pellets. This is demonstrated by the different answers already given for the "best" conditioning. Ration formulation, grinding processes, amount of handling the pellet goes through, the climate it is processed in, etc. will all impact the requirements for optimum pelleting. There is no single rule for this. It is always the result of all of these factors, the equipment and the location. Pelleting is a very desirable process but is dependent on a multitude of factors. The best answers to your question require discussions with your pellet mill manufacturing company combined with experience at your local milling site. Simply changing die specifications may be a way to drastically change pellet quality/durability.
