NDF2010 Symposium: The Role of Plant Cell Walls in Dairy Cow Nutrition (Wageningen University, Netherlands, March 2010)

The Centre for Animal Nutrition in the Netherlands, in partnership with Lallemand Animal Nutrition organized an international symposium devoted to the importance of plant cell wall characteristics in nutrition management of dairy cattle, in March 2010 in Wageningen, Netherlands: NDF 2010.
Engormix covered the symposium and interviewed some of the organizers and speakers and gathered reactions of participants from around the world who told us about their own field experience.

This week we are publishing the first videos from NDF 2010, with interviews from Prof. Ad van Vuuren, from Wageningen UR Livestock Research and Julien Sindou, Silage Product Manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, co-organizers of the symposium.

Dr John Cone from Wageningen University kicks off the symposium by discussing the effects of forage type on plant cell wall characteristics, and their degradability in the rumen, a key parameter of feed value.

Dr André Bannink, from Wageningen UR Livestock Research at Lelystad (NL) will be looking at the impact of NDF quality on enteric methane production.

UK consultant Barrie Audis from SFG Nutritional Services brings the nutritionist's point of view on the symposium and discusses how to make the most out of NDF, arguing about the impact of good forage management and rethinking nutrition strategy according to cow's status.

Next week you will learn about the link between NDF degradability, feed intake and milk production from Professor Michael Allen, from Michigan State University, and how ruminant live yeast affects fiber digestibility from Dr Ana Lourenço from University Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro, in Portugal.
