A new stage begins in terms of vaccinations against Salmonella. From May 2021, Primun Salmonella E can be applied in laying the first live vaccine against Salmonella Enteritidis that has been authorized for that period. In this way, we give the respite that the producer had been asking for for a long time. The productive cycles of laying hens are getting longer and the immunity that has been given through the vaccines applied only in the rearing period, did not cover the new demands.
Calier has managed to protect against Salmonella Enteritidis with Primun Salmonella E until at least 95 weeks of life, but…
…are we prepared to vaccinate during lay?
Primun Salmonella E is a valuable product, and as such, it must be applied correctly both for the investment involved and for its importance from a health point of view. We must be sure that all the steps are followed correctly and therefore know that the animals will be protected for a longer period of time.
After having attended various vaccinations in production for a year, we have been able to verify that firstly, the facilities do not have the same level of equipment as the rearing farms - where the entire vaccination program was applied up to now -, and secondly, a certain level of training for personnel who do not know the vaccine application methodology as well as it was not usual to do so in these facilities.
This is where Calier is actively working to be able to assist and accompany the client throughout the vaccination process against Salmonella Enteritidis.
Calier has developed a specific website, baptized with the name of WEVAP, which our clients can access and register through www.calier.com, in the PROFESSIONALS section. logo wevap
This website is a tool that will serve to be able to audit vaccinations as well as serve as a guide for carrying them out. Evaluates biosafety points, vaccine protection, preparation, application and evaluation of said process.
In turn, during the audit, water samples are taken at the end of the line with FTA cards, in order to detect the vaccine strain by PCR and thus confirm the presence of the vaccine in the drinking water at the time the animals have begun to drink.
All the information collected during the audit will be evaluated, and after this, the client will receive a report with the points of improvement, if any, along with the results obtained from the FTA cards in our laboratory in Calier Leon.
WEVAP is a simple and intuitive digital tool, in short, an interesting support for any producer concerned about doing things correctly and efficiently.
Work has also begun in Spain with external companies specialized in sampling and water quality to offer a more complete service. With this invaluable help, we can be within reach of the requirements that the client needs.
We all know the importance of maintaining an optimal level of quality in the water that animals have access to drink. Parameters such as pH, chlorine or peroxide levels must be monitored when carrying out a successful vaccination.
It is very important to maintain a correct pH level to keep the vaccine stable, and that there is no presence of biocides in the water, since all this can inactivate it and thus not achieve the expected immunity in the animals.
All these parameters will be evaluated in the moments prior to the preparation of the mixture, in order to be sure that the Salmonella vaccine will be protected and thus ensure its efficacy at the same time.
In conclusion, Calier wants to give our flagship product, Primun Salmonella, the value it deserves with new technical services, and at the same time accompany and advise anyone who has decided to trust us when it comes to protecting their hens.
