The high cost of clean out, litter disposal and new bedding makes it economical for broiler producers to re-utilize bedding material for one, two, three or even more years of production. However, this practice makes proper litter conditioning an essential tool of good management for keeping flocks healthy and profitable. Conditioning litter between flocks addresses where the birds live, which is t...
This is an interesting article but needs practical case studies to bring the import clearly to the farmers.
The level of zoonotic risk associated with poor litter management will call for a deeper study before practical application, especially in the humid tropical climate.
I think this is a study that should be supported by research organization, especially in the areas of Broiler production.
I suggest that the author conducts more empirical studies on this interesting topic with reference to regular assay on such litter to identify the profile of identified pathogen from time to time over a period of the litter age.
This study could be repeated in many ecological locations world wide. It is an interesting topic.
