Mr Ahmed and Mr Mpoki. Thanks for your comments and I understand your concerns regarding the food safety relevance of CRESM. However, it has generally been recommended that strong quality control programmes should be in place to help ensure successful usage of by-products in animal diets. Furthermore, as regard the reference to Africa by Mr Mpoki, it should be noted that the escalating global awareness for food safety is consequently increasing the routine veterinary assessment at slaughter houses in the developing world. Therefore, we will recommend that CRESM should only be obtained from animals slaughtered in abbatoirs that have genuine and certified veterinary procedures. In addition, also suggested in the study, there should be adequate processing of the CRESM to prevent pathogenic contamination. The nearly zero mortality recorded (table 4)in the study is one significant claim to the biosafety of CRESM. Thank you!
