Compensatory Effect of Superliv in feed with reduced energy in broilers - Image 1The liver plays a key role as being the center of a number of digestive, metabolic and productive activities. Oxidative stress leads to biological damage and is regarded as one of the causes of several pathologies that affect poultry growth. In heat stressed broilers, liver cells showed “fatty degeneration” with dilation of the sinusoid, which causes reduced metabolism and stunted growth and sometimes mortality. Also, the increase in demand for poultry meat has given momentum to use of synthetic compounds in the feed. In addition to this, recently the safety of such practices has been questioned and their use is becoming restricted in many parts of the world. Therefore, there is a greatly renewed interest in developing a natural alternative supplement to maintain the integrity of liver, optimum metabolism, animal performance and overall wellbeing. There is a noble herbal solution which is not only giving all-around protection to the liver but is also safe in long-term use and don’t have any ill effect as synthetic compounds. Actually, it is a Liver formula for better protection and production. It has hepatoprotective, anti-hepatotoxic, hepatoregenrative, anti-oxidant and immunomodulatory properties of ingredient herbs. This noble herbal solution is Superliv. Superliv Liquid consists of herbs viz. Andrographis paniculata, Azadirachta indica, Boerhaavia diffusa, Phyllanthus niruri, etc. These herbs by virtue of their antioxidant and hepatoprotective properties tone up the liver and alleviates heat stress in poultry birds. They help in better feeding, synthesis of amino acids and minimize the aflatoxin effects. Feeding of this herbal growth promoter has been seen to improve protein content with better utilization of supplied protein in the diet.
To determine the efficacy of Superliv not only as growth promoter but as protein conserver in commercial broiler chicken by reducing metabolizable energy by 5% in the diet, a study was carried out at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Parbani, Maharashtra, India.

Observation:
It inferred that addition of Superliv in 5% sub-optimal diet resulted into compensation of cumulative gain in weight confirming efficacy of Superliv at par with that of control group. It is also revealed that there were no adverse effects of the herbal liver tonic on feed consumption, palatability and thereby performance of the broiler birds. There is no significance difference in the feed efficiency ratio between the groups. Although the supplementation of Superliv @ 0.05 gm/kg of feed, improves feed utilization of commercial birds which is beneficial to the farmers.

Observation:
There is no significance increase in the values for SGOT and SGPT for Superliv supplement groups at 42nd day except SGPT value at 21st day. This indicate the hepato-protective and liver tonic property of Superliv. It protects the liver from any liver dystrophy or other vital organ abnormality. It is evident that Superliv facilitate efficient lipid metabolism without causing any liver dysfunction in broiler.

Observation:
There is decrease in the total protein and globulin level in the control group with the increase in the age of the broiler birds whereas Superliv counter the fall of total protein and globulin in the Superliv treated group. Ruther there is increase in the total protein level in the Superliv treated groups at 42nd day. Superliv supplement groups clearly indicated the effective functioning of liver. Increase in globulin values also inferred the effective functioning of liver for metabolism of protein.
Conclusion:
On the basis of all the findings, it can be concluded that supplementation of liver tonic product Superliv is efficacious for improving growth, performance and economic returns. It also indicate the hepato-protective and liver tonic property of Superliv. The product was found to be safe for usage and can be recommended as liver tonic and growth enhancer in poultry. This is a good product with promising future.
