IntroductionThe poultry industry in Nigeria is an essential subsector of agriculture that provides food, employment, and other economic resources for the country (Ezekiel et al. 2012a). Livestock production can be threatened when feeds are contaminated by fungi and their toxic metabolites. Several mycotoxins, including aflatoxins (AFs), cyclopiazonic acid (CPA ), fumonisins (FUMs ), nivalenol (N I ...

Role of Mycotoxins As the world’s population grows, access to a safe food supply will continue to be a global priority. In recent years, the world has experienced an increase of mycotoxin contamination in grains due to climatic and agronomic changes that encouraged fungal growth during cultivation. A number of the molds that are plant pathogens produce mycotoxins, which are known to cause s ...

Mycotoxin contamination in newly harvested grain is a very important parameter to consider. That grain is used to feed the animals for the whole year, until the next harvest. As the saying goes, “knowing the enemy is half the battle won.”In turn, if we know the level of contamination, we can think about the best use of the wheat: to which animal species it can be fed (avoiding the more ...

Agreed with Akos above. After proposing preharvest interventions (https://doi: 10.3389/fmicb.2019.02528), the authors have taken the approach to improve feed quality (https://doi.org/10.3390/toxins11100565). Both of these approaches were published in this forum. Regarding field fungus like Fusarium, similar preventive approaches need to be pursued. Downstream maintenance of value chain would furth ...

We would have to prevent our animal from fungus growth feed. It cause huge problem to milking animal .toxicity having harm effect on animal. We must use toxin binder on daily basis to prevent Rumen and intestinal toxicity

The control of mycotoxin in feed is essential factor in the feed because prevention is better than cure. We must be aware of use of fungicide and about agronomy. Also about the season of cutting from September to mid of October, the moisture content is more in feed ingriedient especially in maize which is main element of live stock and poultry feed. We must have to add toxin binder of clay base an ...

Akos Mesterhazy you are absolutely right - to use resistant to fungal growth genotypes of maize and wheat would be the first and important step in prevention of preharvest contamination!
