Very good article !! Benefit of feed acidifier as well as water acidifier is well established in poultry, swine & aqua culture due to its unique mode of action. -Reduces pH level in stomach and particularly in the small intestine thus inhibits growth of pathogenic bacteria. -Reduces B-value of feed ingredients / Imparts positive effects on protein hydrolysis. -Improves nutrient digestibility and assimilation. -Helpful in metabolic function for energy generation. -It is biodegradable. Dietary Formulation will be better with protected direct acting organic acids with low pKa value.

What about the use of Glucono delta lactone (GdL)as an acidifier? Does it have the same effect of organic acids as growth promoters? regards

The article on dietary acidifiers is very interesting and encouraging . I have been using calcium propionate as preservative without knowing this additional dietary benefits . I am now going to consolidate without fear. Thanks Dr Igwe U Eddy
