Dear Mr. Satti, formic acid is volatile and not really temperature stable. Furthermore, if you want to add this acid post-pelleting, which I assume since you mention a gel-base, I would assume that leaching might be an issue - shrimp, as you know, need quite some time until the pellet is ingested. As such I'm not sure that relevant amounts of the acid would reach the shrimp. I am therefore more in ...

Dear Dr. Francis, dear Dr. Banerjee,There has been numerous information on the use of KDF in various fish and shrimp species since several years. The trial reported above is yet another study, this time reporting the impact of the additive under field conditions in tilapia with a bacterial stressor. You will certainly agree with me that it is always tricky to establish completely randomized design ...

Potassium diformate (KDF) is a specifically conjugated acid double-salt, patented by ADDCON and traded as FORMI on the European and world-market. Potassium diformate has been approved in the European Union as a non-antibiotic growth promoter for use in diets for piglets, growing-finishing pigs and in sows. It was also registered as the first replacement for in-feed antibiotics world-wide. Previous ...

I can only agree that one tends to overestimate the impact of water acidification in Salmonella control. Sure, it is one part of the concept to combat Salmonella. At least in Europe, the chances of introducing Salmonella into broilers via feed and water are minimal. That doesn't mean that biosecurity measures in those vectors shall be neglected (we are using formic acid based acidifiers in the dri ...

Dear Shihan,As mentioned previously in this discussion, your issue is most likely related to Vibrio spp. bacteria, potentially to Vibrio harveyi. In general, you have two options to tackle the disease, via a disinfectant for the water... or via an antimicrobial additive via the feed. If you'd like to do the approach via feed, which will help the shrimp rather than trying to establish a "luminous f ...
