Measuring Hatching Egg Shell Quality

Published: December 29, 2008
Summary
Clearly hatchability is important to both small flock and commercial poultry breeder flock owners. Maintaining hatching egg shell quality is important because of its connection with hatchability. The major factors that influence egg shell quality are genetics, diet, climate, housing and age of the hens. While the average poultry operation has limited control over most of these factors, the crucia...

Article is a good effort in understanding the causes of lower hatchability in broiler breeders. There is no findings of light color eggs (lower hatchability). The article is not fully loaded on the site may be due to some error. After reading Avian Advise issue the things get clear. I think the light color occurs during/after the attack of disease like Avian Influenza, ND, IB and EDS.

Dear sir,

The article is a good effort in understanding the causes of lower hatchability in broiler breeders. There is no findings of light color eggs (lower hatchability). I think the light color occurs during/after the attack of disease like Avian Influenza, ND, IB and EDS. Also, there is nothing about dietary factors (fat, fatty acids. C/P RATIO AND CALCIUM PHOSPHOROUS RATIO).

A good article about Measuring Hatching Egg Shell Quality. Only lighter colour shade of egg shell should not be related to low hatchability as it could be due dietary - nutritional changes and environmental stress. Convulsion period after viral diseases could be the reason.

Over all low quality of egg shell & its content would be cause for low hatchability.
