I wonder why this diet composition was chosen; was it an attempt to mimic the typical composition of the weaner diets in the local area? Why was dehulled SBM used in combination with high quality protein sources? A reduction of the content of crude protein is generally expected to reduce the risk of digestive disorders in weaned piglets. I would expect that the inclusion of aureomycin in combination with a high level of ZnO would off-set a major part of the detrimental effects associated with the diet composition and therefore confound the hypothesis regarding effect on gut health.
