We face a global challenge in feeding a rapidly increasing population, while using fewer resources to do it. In short, we need to do more with less. This sustainable global food challenge will take a variety of players and approaches to resolve, but technology will undoubtedly be central if we are to be successful.
Digitization, the Internet of Things and more powerful software all offer new tremendous opportunities to change the way we produce our food. However, it takes more than just technology. It also requires a profound know-how of the domain in question and expertise in livestock farming to utilize the data and bring value to the entire production cycle.
That’s why at Evonik we’ve been implementing a ‘Precision Livestock Farming’ approach for poultry production. By combining our decades of science-based expertise with intelligent software algorithms and consistent connectivity, it is possible interlink previously individual solutions for animal farming, animal health, and animal nutrition.
We’ve already created products like amino acids with the highest bioefficacy for maximum animal performance, analytical services and monitoring tools to optimize animal feed, big data software and gut health products to produce healthy animals without antibiotic growth promoters. Precision Livestock Farming is the next natural step to expand, streamline and optimize the offering that helps to ‘science the global food challenge’.
This approach can also be tailored to individual customers allowing them to meet their specific needs.
It’s not something we want to do on our own though. We like to team up with partners from other industries to establish the connectivity that’s required for seamless integration along the entire process chain. The more holistic the implementation of Evonik Precision Livestock Farming at a customer’s site, the more effective the outcome.
