Innovating Antibiotic-Free Production: The Future of Endolysin Technology
Published:March 7, 2025
Al Zimmerman, CEO of Axitan, discusses how their groundbreaking endolysin technology is transforming antibiotic-free production. He shares insights on productivity gains, cost savings, and the company's exciting plans for 2025, including new partnerships and product expansions.
Endolysins are an interesting technology for controlling pathogens of economic importance in animal production. They target specific bacteria with a direct mode of action (cutting the peptidoglycane membrane)…just like AB does, but without being an antibiotic. Today we have an endolysin that targets Clostridium Perfringens and we have seen notable performance improvements in both, clinical outbreaks and sub clinical infections. We are working in expanding to other pathogens as well….so, for sure, Endolysins will be a useful tool for animal production.
