Effectiveness of Liquid Amino Acid in Drinking Water for Broiler Chickens Fed Broiler Diet
Published:August 8, 2023
Summary
INTRODUCTION In practice it is very difficult, if not impossible; to formulate diets with natural feed ingredients that will provide all the amino acids needed by broiler chickens in adequate quantities. The optimal use of liquid and synthetic amino acids in animal diets, therefore, becomes important not only in nutrition and economic aspects, but also in environmental aspects. It is well know...
Hello. Interesting concept, that feeds would require supplementation with liquid amino acids. First, may I clarify one small point. For every amino acid other than methionine, the content of liquid products can be directly compared to solid versions; so a 50% lysine liquid will supply 500 mg lysine per g consumed. For lysine hydrochloride the value is 78% / 780 mg / g. Therefore to replace 1 g lysine hydrochloride requires 1.56 g 50% liquid lysine (780/500). The assumption is that pure amino acids are 100% available.
For methionine, the comparison is complicated by the fact that MHA-FA is NOT METHIONINE. It is a methionine precursor, requiring conversion to L-methionine. Efficiency of conversion is 65%. So here, replacement of 1 g methionine requires 1.54 g liquid MHA.
The fact that it is felt that liquid supplementation is required is, for me, an admission that we have not designed and manufactured our feed correctly. The global poultry industry has successfully depended on complete, solid diets for the last 50+ years. I am not sure this position can be challenged on the basis of this paper. Better to invest in quality evaluation of raw materials, feed design, and training of our Farmer customers to make better decisions on what feeds represent best value for money. MPS
Martin Smith Many thanks for your kind comments. Sure, I agree with you that sole presentation of nutrients in liquid form can not in any way supersede the solid form. However, the outcome of this paper was to help small scale farmers increase the performance of their chickens. I live in an environment where the ambient temperature could rise to 40 - 45 degrees C or even more leading to loss of birds. Using liquid presentation of nutrients as a supplement not a replacement /substitute for solid feed could be a swift relief to farmers and birds. The idea of using liquid amino acid as a supplement is the mechanism behind its movement to the bloodstream.I.e. through diffusion move liquid nutrients across barriers, like the villi in the small intestine and straight into the bloodstream through capillaries. Again, I absolutely agree with this comment from you "Better to invest in quality evaluation of raw materials, feed design, and training of our Farmer customers to make better decisions on what feeds represent best value for money."
For a small farmer also transport and mixing of liquid product is not more convenient. We india are encouraging small farmers to for 5% 10% 30% feed concentrate mix where all vitamins minerals aminoacids toxin binders are mixed in one pack. 30% concentrate has the protein portion also. The small farmer grinds and mixes the locally available grain portion and the feed cost gets economical.
Yes, indbro CEO.is right, because only liquid amino acid is not satisfied theHunger& satityfor Broiler.& Birds are developing angry& cannibalism behaviour because their stomachs are not full.
