History

Health, welfare, nutrition, productivity, food safety, environment - those are key words for the Poultry Health Research Network (PHRN). Established in 2012, we are a network of poultry researchers and poultry health specialists who address a wide range of issues - from basic biology, to environmental concerns, to poultry disease, production and welfare.

The University of Guelph has a long-standing commitment to animal health with one of the largest groups of poultry scientists and poultry experts in North America. This combined with our state-of-the- art facilities make Guelph the ideal hub for global poultry research.

PHRN integrates cutting-edge research with high-quality education for the next generation of poultry specialists and researchers. We also provide effective knowledge transfer to our stakeholders, including industry, government and consumers.

PHRN consists of 40 individuals from the University of Guelph, the Public Health Agency of Canada, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, and poultry industry organizations, including the Poultry Industry Council and the Canadian Poultry Research Council.

As well, there are more than 100 highly qualified personnel (HQP) working on poultry-related research projects at any given time under PHRN member leadership. These include MSc and PhD students, undergraduate project students, research assistants, post-doctoral researchers and visiting scholars
