Aquatic food pellets conventionally sold for the raising of fish or other aquatic species have been generally of two types. The pellets have either been of sufficient density to allow them to sink in the water as would be necessary for the feeding of crustaceans or bottom feeding fish, or they have been of a reduced density to allow them to float on the surface of the water. The floating type of ...

On Engormix's Spanish speaking community a great discussion has been originated a few months ago and is covering the experiences in the use of a pellet mill having 2 or 3 roll assemblies. A few manufacturer names came into the picture as CPM and Andritz being the most popular. A great debate between available surface area in the pelleting chamber verse pellet mill capacity has been created and the ...

Adeniyi ; To achieve sinking effect you have to consider several factors such as formulation, amount of steam and die insert configuration. If you are thinking only on the ingredient side of the equation then you wont be successful achieving what you are looking for, you have to balance and consider all these 3 factors. ED.

Hello again Mohamad; For steam calculations, I should say that for each ton of corn being processed you will need 12 BHP (boiler horse power). In your case, 6 TPH x 12 BHP = 72 BHP where 1BHP = 34.5 pounds of steam. That means the steam chest will need 2,484 pounds of steam per hour to properly hydrolyze the granules of starch in the corn with an average residence time of 45-50 minutes. The dryer yo ...

Most flaking mills designed for steam flaking grain will include scraper blades (sometimes referred to as doctor blades) that will continuously clean the surface of the rolls and prevent material from sticking. Properly conditioned corn will be sticky and normally requires a properly functioning scraper blade to keep the roll surface clean. Tempering prior to steam conditioning can be a very use ...

Could be a combination of both factors. The rolls surface is corrugated or smooth?

Mohamad; The moisture content entering the flaking mill should be close to 18% and make sure you have enough residence time in the steam chest in order to hydrolyze the starches. You must be wasting a lot of energy (in form of steam) by trying to transfer the heat into the corn by having an oversized steam chest. I will suggest you to by-pass the tempering step since is not required at this point. ...

Tempering supposed to be done when the steam chest is undersized and, in addition, 4 hours is a very short time. You need to expose the corn to the water/surfactant mixture for more time in order for the liquid to be absorbed instead of being in the corn surface.Residence time inside the steam chest @ 30 minutes for corn seems also short, it should be more close to 45-50 minutes. What is the moist ...

Apurva; I would like to share my previous experience in the use of both materials in Poultry Feed. Bentonite has been used in the past as an ingredient to agglutinate other ingredients in the formulation. This was used mainly in formulas difficult to pelletize having a certain quantities of by-products instead cereals. HSCAS later were introduced as an aflatoxin binder due to the high cationic i ...
