On the 12th and 13th of December 2016 the Silvateam annual meeting took place in Paris (France). Having reached its 3rd edition, this annual recurrence is becoming a very important event both as a company reunion and a wider round table of technical discussion.
All of Silvateam local offices throughout the world were represented: both technical and commercial staff from Argentina, Brazil, China, Italy, Spain, Peru and US attended together with animal health and nutrition related research experts who have been collaborating with Silvateam for many years.
The meeting agenda was split in two sections: one day dedicated to scientific and technical topics, and the other one oriented towards the commercial side of Silvafeed® products and markets. The meeting structure was made up of one to many presentations regarding assays and business related insights.
DVM Claudio Cabral presented the most significant recent studies carried out by the Silvateam Research Center based in Cortinez, Argentina, involving interesting trials on the effects of tannins on various aspects of cattle, broiler and sheep welfare and productivity.
Most of the above studies were undertaken in co-operation with universities and research centers such as Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA), University of Buenos Aires in Argentina, University of California, Davis in the US and the Autonomous University of Sinaloa in Mexico. In particular, Dr. Pablo Chacana from INTA presented a study on avian salmonellosis and Prof. Alejandro Castillo from UC Davis focused on dairy cows milk yield, reproduction efficiency and ROI in dairy and beef cattle management.
Dr. Mark Zhang from Silvateam China showed the results of the Silvafeed® Nutri P experiments on Asian domestic layers, broilers, and pigs, conducted by the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry (Viet Nam).
As regards EMEA, the overview on the various studies carried out in this region was presented by DVM Panciroli from Silvateam Italy. The first topic regarded Silvafeed® ATX and Nutri P benefits both on piglets diets and on board taint and post-weaning diarrhoea reduction. Further tannin focused studies evaluated their role as dietary supplements in dairy sheeps, both in terms of milk yield and quality.
Eventually, the audience was shown the results of an in vitro trial conducted to define Silvafeed® TSP antibacterial properties against bacterial fish pathogens.
The overall impressions and feedbacks have been positive. In particular, Stefano Battaglia, Silvateam S.p.A. CEO, said: “Lots of stimulating ideas which can help us define our commercial guidelines, both our daily operations and the medium to long term planning. Apart from topics strictly related to business, a very important aspect of these events is the fact that they are always a good opportunity to consolidate personal relationships between colleagues”.
After these intense two days Silvateam took part in the 2nd Alternatives to Antibiotics International Symposium, providing a golden sponsorship and presenting three posters about different aspects of tannins impacts on bovine microbiota, on growth promotion and on Salmonella Enteritidis in poultry.
