Effects of zinc hydroxychloride on inflammation and intestinal integrity during feed restriction

Erin Horst (Iowa State University) discussed leaky gut in lactating Holstein cows and the consequences of feed restriction, as well as the effect of dietary zinc hydroxychloride, during the 8th Symposium on Gut Health in Production of Food Animals in St. Louis, USA.
Great presentation. I have a question about the effect of a leaky gut in heifers and the risk of gut inflammation. We know that heifer are fed in a restricted diet in order to control over eating and therefore excessive weigh at partum. Do you have any comment for this particular stage of growing?
