Role of Natural Zeolite in Improving Water Quality, Performance and Health Status of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus L.) in Earthen Ponds
Published:September 3, 2018
Summary
Water quality is determined by some variables like temperature, transparency, turbidity, water colour, carbon dioxide, pH, alkalinity, hardness, unionized ammonia (NH3), nitrite and nitrate (Saeed, 2013; Saeed and Abdel-Mageed, 2011; Chandra Das et al ., 2005). For improving water quality and decreasing ammonia toxicity, there are several possible methods including zeolite addition (U.S.EPA, 200...
For follow up studies do the following;
1) Repeat, but have one Control pond empty of fish and report the water quality changes.
2) Run testing a longer period, for at least a year. This will act as an evaluation of the depletion rate of the absorption capacity for pH and minerals.
3) Frequent water testing both on incoming and pond water.
4) Do a cost analysis. See if this would be a profitable for Tilapia producers.
5) Bench testing of absorption of metals tested at various conditions on feed water and unpolluted upstream water with and with out pond soil in tanks.
For better understanding please explain: Fedden volume or area in metric units. Define the exact nature of the Zeolite. Was it pure Clinoptilolite? If not tell source and composition.
Very useful article Now a days the maximum aquaculture ponds are having experienced with application of Zeolite for various purposes in India. Thanks, PC BEHERA.
Zeolite granules enriched in aluminium silicate are molecular sieve, hydrated aluminosilicate of alkali and alkaline earth cations having an infinite. According to chemical analyses by Central Metallurgical Research & Development Institute (CMRDI), Central Lab for Elemental & Isotopic Analysis and National Research Center (Analysis & Consulting Unit), Cairo, Egypt, zeolite contains averages % (55.79 Si, 8.41 Al, 6.81 Ca, 4.77 Fe, 4.08 K, 0.10 Mn, and 0.05 Zn).
