Disinfectants & Water Sanitizers

Forum: water sanitizers and disinfectants

Control of water quality is the key factor for a successful culture of aquatic animals like fish, prawn and shrimp. An open water system with sufficient good water quality may ensure successful aquaculture. However, if proper quality or sufficient quantity of water is not available, purification of water by eliminating polluting substances including toxic metabolites and growth inhibiting substances which originate mainly form fish or shrimp excretion and excessive feed is necessary. Under this lower water quality conditions there are chances for occurrence of mortalities by diseases due to viral, bacterial, protozoa, fungal pathogens. High populations of aquatic animals can be kept healthy under successful semi-closed and closed systems by maintaining proper sanitization. The increased demand in water quality and quantity in shrimp and fish culture has resulted in a growing interest in using water sanitizers and disinfectants. Vinci dioxide is highly effective in controlling waterborne pathogens. Vinci dioxide is a broad spectrum micro biocide as effective as chlorine against viruses, bacteria & fungi.

Perhaps one should be looking for a natural organism to replace artificial alternatives to solve health and environmental fish welfare problems. Not being fully aware of the system under discussion an expert evaluation has at this point been cover in general terms. Stress is the greatest factor in fish health issues.

When chlorine dioxide concentrations reach 10% or more in air, chlorine dioxide becomes explosive.

Regarding chlorine dioxide as a BIOCIDE, with this much of efficacy, with no side effects, cost effective, Why this product was not popularized? Because of handling problems ? or A/B components? Please any one explain .

Chlorine dioixde was discovered in 1814, was not successful at all in industrial applications and (drinking water) treatment despite superior disinfection capacities. The main reasons of the lack of success were the physical chemical properties of the products. Chlorine dioxide had to be produced on the spot, was an unstable and explosive gas and also generated many by-products (chlorite, free chlorine etc)

Vinci Dioxide is a brand new concept in which a pure chlorine dioxide is generated in water by the reaction of two stable liquids. The chlorine dioxide produced is parctically 100% pure (99.9%). There are no by products such as free chlorine and chlorite. Any risk of explosion diappears by the use of inhibitor components used. The kinetic half time at 20 deg C is between 30 and 45 days, stored in a dark and dry place. Due to all this advantages and the superior disinfection capacity, chlorine dioxide is now a very useful disinfection product for many (small and big) industrial activities.

At present some international companies supplying 0.2% clo2 named DUTRION in a stable single component tablet form.Handling & safety, hasslefree product. May be betterthan others.

Any product in the powder form or tablet form will not give consistent product. I hope they should have two tablets one is base and the other is an activator. Here the problem is if one tablet dissolves fast and other a bit slow the efficacy of the product goes down. Consistency is the main problem and its Stabilized chlorine dioxide not pure chlorine dioxide.

Active vs. Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide Vs Pure Chlorine Dioxide
Active and Stabilized chlorine dioxide are not the same. The term, "Stabilized Chlorine Dioxide", is misleading. There is little or no chlorine dioxide (ClO2) in the stabilized chlorine dioxide compound.
Stabilized chlorine dioxide is not a pure chlorine dioxide. “the term stabilized chlorine dioxide is a misnomer and preparations so labeled are specialty formulations incorporating sodium chlorite and proprietary activators” that are designed to slowly release chlorine dioxide. These products are not intended for use in drinking water applications because high levels of chlorite ion (CLO2-) remaining after activation and the relatively low clo2 concentrations”
From the chlorine dioxide hand book, American water works Association 1998.

Stabilized chlorine dioxide products are prepared by buffering sodium chlorite with carbonate or phosphate and hydrogen peroxide. This stabilizes the chlorite, not chlorine dioxide. Stabilized chlorite is not the same as chlorine dioxide, and does not have the same oxidizing properties. The oxidizing action of chlorite is much lower, and is far less useful. Another main difference between the two compounds is that chlorine dioxide is a gas, and sodium chlorite is a salt.
To make active chlorine dioxide, an acid is mixed with chlorite, which slowly releases the gas. The gas is then captured in a solution or gel. This reaction normally requires high acidity (low pH). Frontier, however, has patented a method of speeding the release of chlorine dioxide at mild acidity (closer to neutral pH). The resulting product is then optimized for use on the body.
The manufacturers of stabilized chlorine dioxide appropriate the term "stabilized" to capitalize on the beneficial properties of chlorine dioxide. The misleading stabilized chlorine dioxide phrase has become popular by effective marketing. Many people refer to it without knowing the difference, and research papers incorporate it incorrectly. The stabilized manufacturers "justify" the misnomer by stating that the term has been in use for some time.

Vinci Dioxide is a brand new concept in which a pure chlorine dioxide 0.35% is generated in water by the reaction of two stable liquids.

YES We can we have lot of test procedures to test the purity of clo2 one among that is Iodometric titration method.
