World Aquaculture 2009, a blue revolution to feed the World

Published: November 23, 2009

The latest World Aquaculture Society Meeting took place last September in Veracruz, México. Despite the number of presentations, the organizers succeeded in separating the sessions in a logical way (trying not to have two sessions on the same subject, at the same time, in different rooms). The main subjects covered during the meeting where: Feedstuffs, Feed Additives & Functional Foods, Food Safety and Security, Shrimp (Breeding, Nutrition, Production and Health), Tilapia, Salmonid, Ornamentals, etc. Many of the papers dealt with the importance of the environment in fish and shrimp production, and how to produce homogeneous animals. The information presented at this meeting showed how fast Aquaculture Production is improving (by learning from the classical Animal Production) and how important aquaculture is becoming in supplying animal protein in people´s diets all around the world (hence the name of the conference).
