Professional experience:
I am a Swedish veterinarian. I was born in Sweden, and grew up in Brussels, Belgium. After having obtained an International Baccalaureate in 1985, I returned to Sweden to study veterinary medicine in Uppsala, and obtained my Doctor degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1991. After a short time in mixed animal practice in northern Sweden I became a veterinary inspector at the Swedish Board of Agriculture (1992-1995), working with animal disease control in trade with animal products and preparing Sweden for entry into the European Union. In 1995, I became a senior veterinary inspector at the National Food Administration. I worked with the national residue control programme, Salmonella control programme, and trade in meat and meat products as well as food hygiene in meat production. I participated frequently in Standing veterinary committee meetings at the EU Commission and Council. In 1996, upon request from the EU Commissioner Franz Fischler, I became a National Expert at the EU commissio
