Natural Remedies Standardized Botanical Powder (NRSBP™), a new concept in phytochemicals

Natural Remedies has always been keen on serving human and animals alike by amalgamating ancient Indian traditional system of Ayurveda with modern scientific methodologies. Over 50 years of operations, we have faced various challenges with respect to the efficacy of natural products. 

To overcome this challenge, the concept of NRSBP™ was introduced and studied. NRSBP™ stands for Natural Remedies Standardized Botanical Powder. They are herbal powders whose concentrations are standardized with minimal variation in the phytochemical actives, to ensure efficient phyto-active function in the animal’s body. Plants over the period of evolution have acquired various defence mechanisms to ward of predators and microbes. One of the major aspects in the plant defence mechanism are phytochemicals. Phytochemicals like alkaloids, terpenes, phenolic compounds and flavonoids are produced by the plant and are stored in a specialized organelle known as the vacuole, which is encapsulated by a membrane known as tonoplast. For example, Andrographolide, a diterpenoid class of phytochemical which alters the taste perception in animals (bitterness for example, in Andrographis paniculata) or a scent which could make them less likable by birds or animals.

However, over time, research has shown that these phytochemicals could have a varied range of utility for the humans. The phytochemicals were discovered to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, adaptogenic, immunomodulatory, anti-cancer and gut enhancing properties. This eventually led to the birth of herbal medicine with a scientific twist. 

Production of phytochemicals by plants is dependent on the age and the region of the plant where it is produced. The nature of phytochemicals produced change as the plant matures from a young sapling, a young plant and an older version. This variability in concentration of these phytochemicals makes the feeding whole plants a biomass-intensive process. For example, a young leaf could have more concentration of a andrographolides as compared to an older leaf. The stem may not contain a desired concentration of andrographolides in this case. Therefore, it is important to ensure that plants selected for their medicinal uses contain similar concentration of a specific phytochemical, which would be used in formulation of products.

Herbal medicine has evolved from a traditional branch of medicine, to a highly advanced form where the art of scientific drug dosing, has taken centre-stage.

Driven by the need to standardize the variation in phytochemicals, NRSBP™ was seeded as a concept to mitigate the increase in medicinal plants used for production and enhance the efficiency of the phytochemical.

Plants were procured fresh and tested for pesticides and fertilizers. They were analysed for different dioxins, mycotoxins or heavy metals. This ensures a safe feed supplement that is delivered to you.

Once the powder is fed by the animal, the tonoplasts would be naturally broken down by the gut of animals, which would in turn release the phytochemical present in it. In other terms we preserve the natural encapsulation that nature provides to plants to protect its phytochemicals. This ensures optimum Phyto-active delivery to animals.
