Field Discussion: Respiratory Signs at 21 Days in Broilers

Published: September 30, 2026
Source : Dr. Meesam Raza
A 21-day-old broiler flock showing closed eyes, depression and respiratory sounds, followed by increasing mortality.

Interestingly, the same problem has occurred around 3 weeks of age in the previous flocks.

Possible factors:

CRD/Mycoplasma complex
IB or other respiratory pathogens
Secondary E. coli
High ammonia/poor ventilation
Wet or caked litter

The key question is:

If the problem repeats at the same age, should we treat only the birds—or investigate what is repeating between flocks?

What is your field experience with similar cases?
