In vitro and In vivo Antimicrobial Effect of a Patented Activated Clay and its Consequence on Broilers Performance

Introduction and objective
The ban or more limited utilization of antibiotics growth promoters in many countries has reduced the tools to control gut microflora. In this context, a synthetic ion exchanged clay under a patented process (B-Safe), was developed and is proposed as an alternative to antibiotics to help in the gut microflora management.

In vitro and in vivo trials were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of B-Safe to improve gut microflora control and its zootechnical consequences.

Conclusion
B-Safe is able to control pathogenic bacteria in animal gut and can then improve animal performance and welfare when stocking conditions are similar to field conditions.
