Why use milk replacements in piglets?

Published: September 15, 2010
By: Joaquin Armando Paulino
The genetic improvement has decreased drastically the synthesis and milk production in lactating sows; the technicians have had to resort to the use of replacement milk to piglets during lactation. This problem can be solved applying three improvements: 1-Concentrating nutrients in the diet of lactating 2- Stimulating feed intake during lactation (for example using the meal six times per day, use of flavourings, act.) 3-Using a micronized powder fat to the liver bypass based in triglycerides extracted from the palm (e.g. ALIFET increases milk production in more than 40 in cows and sows). good point why do people use milk replace in piglets. I guess it helps to getthem along to the next level in the production line. They certainly grow when milk is added tothe feed.

I think it is uneconomical to apply replacement milk to piglets, the enhancing effect is very expensive, is more economical to concentrate the diet of the lactating sow and feed consumption to stimulate greater milk production

milk can be added to creep feed to help piglets over the transition from mothers milk to solid food, but they should be on mum till they are 21 days old and have the benefit og the good milk
