Are Urinary tract infections common in sows during the postpartum period? I need to know about this topic and also see some pictures to differentiate normal to pathological vaginal discharge in case the urine is the best way to identify the presence of bacteria.

Dear Claudio,
there ar two only moments when vulvar discharegs (if not purulent/bad smelling) are phisiological: after parturition for some days, around oestrus or mating. otherwise all others are pathological. A good way to know if there is an uro-genital infection is to check bacterial count in the urine, if it is high you are sure there is an infection. The urinary pH is not predictive, bit in case of urinary infection the pH tends to be high.
